A director’s cut of the film, titled The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn, which will restore horror elements that were previously removed, is set for release on Hulu on August 14, 2026.
“I made it too scary, and I was told so by the brass at Fox, and they wanted a PG-13 movie,” Carter told Duchovny last year. “Now I have a chance to go back and make the scary movie that I always intended … It’s not just doing a director’s cut to do a director’s cut. It’s really kind of bringing to life something that for me was on the page and never got to the screen.”
Will it be a continuation to the X-Files first episode to carry a viewer discretion warning?

I doubt it but I just wanted to bring it up. The first and only episode I showed my wife and it completely turned her off to the series. I set her up wrong. That’s like telling people to watch the pig fucking episode of Black Mirror when there are so many better starting point.
