science@lemmy.world•Scientists built a solar reactor that eats plastic bottles and burps out clean hydrogen . . .at scale.English
18·11 days agoThe spray-coating method cuts the cost to produce the reactors significantly, which should make them easier to produce at scale. But the hydrogen right now is still too expensive. According to a press release, the researchers still need to improve the durability and efficiency of the reactors.
Not feasible yet though
Gotcha, that makes sense
It’s like that anecdote about the $50 shoes breaking down within a year vs the $150 shoes that last forever
Where is it defined as 200-400k a year?
I thought it was based off of savings and ability to vacation
I just take issue with the word “rich”
Like all those people are poor, primarily as a result of the politicians and corporate greed. I ain’t rich but I’m luckily far from that 40% grouping. I’d probably be grouped as the elusive middle class

232·13 days agoMy buddy moved to Oregon where they don’t add fluoride to the water, and recently saw a dentist. The dentist could immediately tell he was from out of state and advised him he’d have to add supplementary fluoride rinses to his dental hygiene regimen to compensate.
I thought that was pretty cool the dentist could eyeball how impactful fluoride in the drinking water was.
You don’t have to be rich, that’s what loans are for Solar is also way cheaper in other non-us countries
Also balcony solar is coming to the US so it’ll be more accessible
I don’t think it’s a problem to be selfish, if you can provide for the kid (both emotionally and materially).
Also the foster/adopt system is exceedingly slow (months to years for placement) and the older children are likely to have serious issues. Personally I’d be fine with fostering to adopt but I don’t want to risk bringing a behavioral nightmare of a teen into my house.
For new life, assuming the emotional + material needs are met, existence is definitely worth it over nothingness. Global warming and all these authoritarian politicians are definitely making for a shitty looking future for new life though.
Yall got some dismal life experiences; what a dour outlook on life.

It sometimes can be a better option to move data, since storage density is pretty high. Like if Cletus needed a shitload of mp4s and only had POTS or pigeons lol

It’s pedantic, but I wouldn’t blame society as a whole but the few psychos at the top of the pyramid (e.g. tech billionaires, corrupt politicians, etc)
Most of society (+99%) just wants to have their needs met, and when given the proper support are good people. The elite bastards spew so much propaganda and fund things against our interests that a lot of people can’t be their best selves.
