  • An ancient Roman and an ancient Greek were sitting in Elysium discussing which of their civilisations were the greatest.

The Greek says “We invented engineering and architecture”, “But” says the Roman “we took that and created the aquaducts and the colosseum”.

The Greek says “Well, then we invented politics and philosophy”, “But” says the Roman “we took that and created the greatest political system the world has known”.

The Greek says “Well, we invented sex!” “But” says the Roman “we were the first to think about having it with girls…”

  • Medicine.

Evidence shows that some highly specialised models are better at things like detecting breast cancer in scans than human doctors.

Properly anonymised automatic second scans by an AI to catch the markers that human doctors miss for another review by a specialist is an excellent potential use case for an LLM AI.

Transcription services can save doctors huge amounts of admin time and allows them to focus on the patient if they know there’s a reliable system in place for typing up notes for a consultation. As long as it’s treated as a “please review these notes are accurate” rather than treated as a gospel recording and the data is destroyed once it’s job is complete and the patient has been able to give informed consent.

The way these things are being used in actual medical contexts right now is frankly terrifying.

Well BBT, and every other that has a laugh track, is scripted and edited around it. Removing that will make even the best comedy suck.

The show sucks but removing the canned laughter doesn’t prove anything.

Intentionally make advert you know will get blocked from airing on TV and then refuse to make the suggested edits. Make a whole load of new adverts to manufacture fake controversy about your original advert. Profit?

I am no fan of the OSA, and I like Mullvad and have used their services, but knocking out a piece of complete AI slop with the intent of being able to spin months of advertising masquerading as journalism is pretty cynical behaviour.

  • It’s 1632, dentistry was was carried out by the same person who did the medical surgery, who also happened to be the person who did the animal butchery too.

Also it’s around the time that sugar started to come into the common person’s diet from the plantations in the Caribbean and people didn’t understand how terrible it was for their teeth. There’s skulls of people who died in old age from the 14th century with basically perfect teeth but by the 16th they were rotting out of people’s mouths by the time they got to their 30s.
