I’m a big headline only kinda guy when I’m just scrolling, but any time I see “corporation says” I know it’s the opposite.

Are people still fans of corporations these days?

Saw him live in Perth at his old University when I was a teen and it was amazing. My parents were ultra religious and shitty about it so a lot of his songs resonated lol. Was my political awakening.

Idk, but I’m over them and all “smart” tech so it’ll need to be a vast improvement. I’m going backwards. Nothing fucking works right anymore. And everything is enshittified into a subscription or just full to the brim with ads. Usually both.

Started storing my media locally on a NAS. Bought a new MP3 player recently. Getting wired headphones and a dug out my old iPod dock because it’s so hard to find a speaker with aux input. Apparently brands consider that to be a luxury feature and only put it in the top of the line models if at all. My Sonos speakers all bricked themselves with the app or are so much trouble to get working every time I want to listen to music that I don’t bother anymore. Never getting anything without at least having a backup wired connection and offline mode.

Got a retro Gameboy emulator when the switch two came out - I’m not buying an identical console just because the company decided to squeeze me by software locking the games to the new console. They got me back in the day with the 3DS too. Anything I can’t play on that, I can play on PC.

My current smart phone is 7 years old and when it goes I’m either getting something simple without Android or going full dumb phone. I have an old digital camera that I actually just dug out of storage and charged the battery last night to see if it still works. If not I’ll be replacing it with another so I don’t need a phone to have a camera. My partner is looking into getting a handheld SBC instead of a phone for his next device.

We’re well past halfway cognizant, but I don’t think that’ll stop him 😂

Yeah but it’s expected for them, this would truly signal the fall of America as we know it. The President only running twice is like one of the things with America.

It’s bad already, but if Trump steps down or the rest of the government finally does something about him and prevents him from running, then it’s just business as usual clicking that ratchet to the right. If he’s allowed to run again or keeps the presidency that’s the signal that the ratchet has reached the end.

Curious to see the rest of the cancelled shows or if it’s mostly just gay content. The author pointed out a couple of gay dating shows got dropped too, I can’t help but wonder if they just had low viewership though. They sound boring lol.

You’d think the BBC would have plenty of money after selling doctor who off to Disney so Disney could kill it though.

No one really cared about Kirk, not even his wife. And he didn’t do anything “saint worthy” even by whatever weird things that means to Republicans. He was just a podcaster and annoying to listen to even if he wasn’t spouting a mix of vile shit and nonsense. He wasn’t even hot. There’s literally zero redeeming qualities.

They just wanted a martyr and his wife saw dollar signs spewing out of his neck for her to snatch up. But he can’t even be a martyr because no one cares.

To be fair, any job will do that to a person. I worked in a whisky bar for 5+ years with decent pay and loved most of it, had a lot of fun. Worked my way from a casual bartender to fill time salaried venue manager. Won international whisky and cocktail awards.

But it started to wear on me having the exact same problems with the owner of the bar every single week, and the exact same conversation with the exact same regulars every single day. The only thing that changed was the people I work with. I started to feel like I barely knew anyone anymore because most of the staff were students or backpackers so they were in and out in 6 months tops. After the last full time bartender left for a different career it felt like I lost my last friend.

One day I rocked up to work to start setting up and the smell of the place hit me as I opened the door and I just broke down crying behind the bar at 28 years old. Handed in my 4 weeks notice that day. The owner didn’t even bother to see me before I left even though he’d only owned the bar for 6 months longer than I’d worked there for him. A year later the place couldn’t find a good replacement and shut down entirely.

Work is just depressing. We weren’t made for this. And late stage capitalism is making things even worse where people aren’t paid enough and aren’t even considered employees anymore.

Oh I don’t disagree that a lot of the bigger and corporate owned distilleries were doing it for the marketing, booze is a billion dollar industry.

When covid hit though, I was manager of a whisky bar and in close contact with a lot of the small batch/craft distilleries around Australia, and knew a lot of the distillers personally. The ones I know of that did switch to hand sanitizer were so small that it was literally an Instagram post to explain why their products weren’t currently available. That was the extent of the marketing. They were literally just producing enough to give a weekly supply to the local hospitals so they didn’t run out entirely before supply was back up.

The hand sanitizer was earning the distilleries less money, they didn’t have to do that. A lot of them also donated to the hospitals and people in charge of doing the covid tests before we had the at home ones. The toilet paper was capitalism as usual though.

It was probably the toilet paper thing. Nothing has happened like that since then. Also they fail to point out we increased toilet paper production when it first became a problem and was solved very quickly. Similar to how all our craft distilleries switched to making hand sanitizer instead of booze when the hospitals were on short supply… Which isn’t quite how capitalism usually works so 🤷‍♂️

Now as a gay millennial couple, with zero desire for kids, we can tell people we have Pete, Sam, and Jake. Everyone just assumes it’s three children. Great excuse for getting out of things early.

In my experience it doesn’t matter how much property managers are paid, they’ll find a way to be malicious. They delight in suffering and the tiny bit of power they have achieved gets them off at night.

Money. They’re saving money. They aren’t thinking about the tenants at all, they’re saving money by not dealing with it properly. The only reason they’re dealing with it at all is to get new tenants in, and charge them more than they could if the renters could see there was a problem before moving in.
