I started out with old Macs running System 7, and it was great. I had several good games installed from floppy disks and found some great shareware games online when we got our first modem and internet

1·9 days agoJust a little too unlikely to worry about. I’d rather defend my own words in court if it came to that. “Yeah I said that shit, and it was fucking true and you know it.” for example

36·1 month agoKinda looks like it’s a data set from the scrubbed files with no mention of the president’s name. I’ve seen his name in formerly released Epstein files so I know it should be there. There was a contact page with about 20 trump phone numbers and his email address released in the past along with other files.

If you really wanted to scare the neighborhood, buy one of those and assemble it to look like the Dark Souls giant skeleton dogs

There is no guarantee unless you could personally audit their facilities and inspect what they did with your account etc. But I would still choose one that states they have a good policy versus one that says nothing on the subject.

82·1 month agoMy personal best guess based on philosophy, spirituality, and recent scientific discoveries is that consciousness occurs in some kind of quantum field that is connected to the human brain using quantum effects inside microtubules in neurons. (See this article for some info https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8393322/ )
There may even be a quantum collective consciousness (like Jung’s collective unconscious) that our brains have a quantum link integration with.
So it might just depend on whether or not your personal quantum consciousness field could interface with the new stuff or not.

8·1 month agoI don’t believe that a copy of someone’s consciousness, even if a perfect copy, would ever “be” that person. That is, unless you could perform some kind of live-transfer where the live person’s sentient persona could intentionally traverse the gap between their original body into the new destination. Otherwise, the original person is just dead and you made a copy.
Edit: The same thing goes for teleportation. If they disassemble the molecules and reassemble the person at the destination, that’s probably a copy and the original person died.
What about logging policies? Seems like that would be an important category to visit - which providers store logs or don’t etc. I’ve heard of some that use RAM-only logging that allegedly never gets stored on disk.

1·1 month agoSame here, as I only use open-source clients on the phone. It’s been obvious for many years that the apps made by the social media companies are spyware, so I’ve stayed away from them.
But also I use the web mostly, and “switching” on the web just means closing one tab and opening another to visit a different URL. It’s sad that many folks who use the Internet don’t understand how or try to avoid the hellscape of app lock-in. The web is here for our open usage just as it has been for decades.
What yer sposed to do is prune whole limbs at their bases (or start of fork if trimming a forked limb), to trim these back when needed. Amputating the limbs in the middle causes lots of little sprout limbs to come out of the stump, and makes it look shitty.

14·2 months agoI found one but it’s not on the map. To add cameras to their map, one will need an OpenStreetMap account FYI. I’ll probably do that soon to add the ones I find.
Their website has pics to help identify them - the one I found is exactly as pictured with the large vertical oval shaped black camera module

He was a master of comedy even though it wasn’t his focus. He just wanted to make cool art, and to him his movies were like moving paintings. I think Wild at Heart could be his funniest film.
