traingang@hexbear.net•We may be looking at the housing affordability crisis all wrong. Higher earners are driving home prices, not lack of supply, researchers say | FortuneEnglish
3·4 days agoIt’s not just rich people buying homes for themselves, it’s investors that purchase housing for use as short term rentals.
This drastically sways the “real” market value of homes since those short term rental properties will just sit gathering dust and netting their owners depreciation breaks while they get to leverage that asset/debt in the market.
That’s why they’re so insistent that housing prices have to go up, because even a minor dip absolutely wrecks the billions of dollars in leveraged debt that’s propping the whole system up.

3·4 days agofunny enough though, there are certain things that don’t work very well in linux like modding Fallout or Skyrim
I think a lot of that is because there are certain assumptions made by setup scripts for those that use powershell or Windows pathing/dll side loading.
You could probably identify the ones that are using powershell can non-posix filepathing and manually patch them, but that could be quite a chore.

171·12 days agoI don’t think that one was as much of an op as it was just incredibly stupid liberals who were seeking arrest for the platform. They didn’t realize that they’ll just disappear you and lose you in the court system and not give you a massive public trial.
I think they’ve stopped that now.

27·13 days agoBecause housing ownership is backwards to most assets in the US. If the value of your home goes down while you’re paying a mortgage, you’re losing massively. If it goes up, you can leverage your mortgage debt.
It’s specifically designed as a debt trap that aligns the working class with capital interests while not giving any real power to mortgage/home owners.

42·14 days agoMore evidence that ICE is straight up just abusers with power fantasies. This is literally a domestic abuse trope. 40% of cops join ICE.
I like that they didn’t just do “player character vs everyone”. The PC is just part of the food chain, and is viewed as a target or threat based on what else is around. It makes it feel really dynamic when the AIs are all interacting with each other instead of just idling until your character is in range

Got my laptop and desktop switched over last October and it’s really smooth. I’ve got to use RDP for work, and was able to set up a xfreerdp command that just works.
Also like that kernel updates just happen and I automatically get a rollback in grub.
I also like that the fedora default repos are more up to date than the Debian ones. Not as bleeding edge as Nix and Arch, but if I need newer stuff I can get it either outside my package manager or add a repo.
