  • If you ever fall in the water remember you don’t need to be able to swim to float! Try to stay calm and pull a big breath of air into your lungs to make you more buoyant. Put your chest towards the sky and lean your head back. Spread your arms over your and and open your legs a bit like you’re making a snow angel. Take small breaths so you keep as much air as possible in your lungs. Call for help! Obviously harder in choppy water than calm, but you don’t need to expend energy dog paddling while you wait for someone to notice and help.

  • I HATE IT but I hope it works

Using synthetic biology techniques, the research team engineered a probiotic with a century-long history of safety into an “intelligent virtual organ” that can be taken orally and reside temporarily in the intestine. It can sense blood glucose fluctuations in real time and autonomously secrete glucose-lowering hormones, enabling therapeutic dosing in response to real-time blood glucose levels, and providing a programmable, orally deliverable sense-and-respond platform for metabolic therapy without transplantation.

  • I walk for errands a lot and I’ve found myself planning routes down quiet low traffic streets just like I take into account hills and shade to stay comfortable. The constant engine sound and exhaust clouds really make things unpleasant even on an otherwise picturesque street. When I’m forced to walk down a busy street I’m naturally drawn to daydreaming about my city keeping its cars on the perimeter (to be used for long distance car trips, hiking/camping) with a little monorail for getting to the garages.
