I saw a headline last night about how building new housing is impacted by a labor shortage. I wonder how that happened. The repercussions are beginning to appear in ways that average people notice. Stupid mother fuckers (the scientific term) are rarely aware of the negative impact they have on those around them. Case-in-point: some lady at a green light just turned her hazards on and sat there blocking traffic for some unknown reason when we were coming home today. She’s way-too checked out to actually think about the people inconvenienced by her behavior or she’d be too horrified by what others thought to do so. I mean, some people are genuinely uncaring about others, but I think the majority don’t think past their own action rather than being sociopaths. They just aren’t thoughtful people.

Pay for independently-developed software if you care about it continuing to exist. Steal from corporations all you want. But support independent devs (and small teams) to make sure they can keep maintaining the tools you love and rely on. It’s the only way to not get swallowed by the big dogs.

I don’t recall what podcast, but I was listening to something about the first military academy in the USA that admitted women and how horribly they were abused. Fucking shit.

I’m so grateful that my mother wasn’t a piece of shit. I mean, she has her faults. She voted for the shitbird three times, thus ending our relationship (I won’t speak to her because of it), but she really tried. She wasn’t abusive. Congrats! I got rid of my car after realizing I hadn’t driven in close to a year. I’ve since bought one again because the pan left me badly exposed (lived alone at the time) but it only gets driven rarely.

Changing where you live can really reverse what you’re describing, but I know that’s not always realistic. I live in the Bay Area and I’m middle-aged. The dating pool is full of people who my values and who like doing stuff I’m into, like going to live music and rocking out. Less than with younger people, but that’s about stamina more than interests.

If I lived in the midwest, where my family all live, there’d be nothing. Conservative bland bullshit. Dunno where you live, but something to consider.
