Pope Francis was history’s first Latin American pontiff who charmed the world with his humble style and concern for the poor but alienated conservatives with critiques of capitalism and climate change.
It would be a small miracle if they select someone who had anywhere near as progressive a view as he did about Palestine, the war in Ukraine, or any other issue for that matter. Perhaps Latin Christo-fascism will get it’s way, it’s looking grim.
He was the least bad pope in recent history, whoever replaces him will almost guaranteed be worse in every respect.
I read that he had a hand in selecting the new crop of Pope Pickers so here’s hoping the next one is in the same vein.
