Reports first emerged last week that O’Brien was expected to visit the country in the coming days to film his Emmy-nominated travel show, Conan O’Brien Must Go. Part of that was said to include O’Brien participating in a world record haka attempt that had already been in the works in Auckland.

Writer/director/actor Taika Waititi joined O’Brien at the Kiwi celeb-filled event.

The world record attempt was a resounding success, with 6,531 people performing the ceremonial dance to beat the previous record of 4,028 participants held by France.

O’Brien’s Max travel series, Conan O’Brien Must Go, is currently in production on its six-episode second season.
