The bedrock of Netflix was eight-season shows like The Office.
They have a firehose of money for new stuff.
But for some goddamn reason, they are incapable of producing a long-running series. Can’t even give the creators a pass/fail goal, or offer some smaller budget as a take-it-or-leave-it decision.
(Which is also why creators who still try broadcast-era cliffhanger endings can get fucked.)
People might watch if it didn’t take a global phenomenon like squid games for Netflix to make a second season. They have made it pretty clear though, new shows bring in more users then a second season of shows. Unless those numbers change neither will Netflix.
I thought it was pretty self contained. I would have loved more, but at least it sits alone pretty well.
Yeah I’d have been more surprised if it did get another season
Bummer, curse of Netflix continues
It’s becoming a self fulfilling prophecy. People don’t watch cause they don’t know if it’ll get reupped, numbers aren’t good enough, they cancel the show, people become more concerned about the next show being canceled so don’t watch.
Santa Clarita Diet marked the end of Netflix for me.
