I love this show, and I have a strong feeling this isn’t going to add anything to it. Have any of these “new” seasons for long canceled shows ever been good?

with a different family dynamic maybe they’ve got some new ideas for it, but idk Hank was always like a liberal’s conception of what a moderate conservative would be like if they actually existed and I feel like there’s going to be some extremely cringe and out of touch commentary in this season as a result of the writers trying to square that circle with modern conservatives.

or maybe they’ll knock it out of the park and conservatives will be frothing about how Hank went woke because the show perfectly dissects their worldview and shows them how pathetic they are.

i will die on this hill (pun inescapable if not necessarily intended): bobby should be trans. the voice actor is a woman and it would fit perfectly with his character’s constantly bouncing off the gendered guardrails of small-town texas life in the original series. that’s a perfectly clear narrative arc.

Oh, I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be good for libs to be reminded that they can’t call people slurs as they report their neighbors to ICE, because that would be uncivilized.

I will miss Dale. His VA died, and I’m not sure i can handle it without Dale.

I think I heard he was already recording some episodes before he died.

It’s a huge loss for sure. Rusty Shackleford is one of the best animated characters in the history of TV.

Apparently a new Phineas and Ferb is also coming out, felt completely ancient when I found out that the first episode of that came out in 2007, 18 years ago…

The Beavis and Butthead reboot (both of them) were pretty good. Futurama was ok too, I still say “oh my yes, well that’s where you’re wrong!”

Mike Judge doesn’t seem to have lost his way too much. Doesn’t really do the “fuck cancel culture!” Thing. Still makes fun of chuds like he always has.

Can anyone name one show revived for streaming that wasn’t forgettable at best??

Like there’s clearly a difference in quality and outcome between a show brought back from cancelation (on streaming or otherwise) and a show log finished being yanked from the grave. Futurama had too many banger endings to be the former. I still have a modicum of hope for the new gumball episodes.

Arrested Development had some great bits in the revived season 4. Tony Wonder, And As It Is Such, So Also As Such Is It Unto You

      It still fell off though.

Started watching AD again and I gotta admit, even I was too hard on Season 4. I think we got ourselves all hyped up for the movie over the course of 6 or 7 years and when it wasn’t as good as the product in our heads, we turned our backs on it. Season 4 isn’t the magnum opus, it’s the Greatest Hits album/farewell tour, and it’s exactly as good as it needed to be.

…doesn’t excuse Jeffrey Tambor’s behavior, though. Or Jason Bateman and Will Arnett for defending him.

Wait, we almost didn’t get the full show? Or are they planning on finishing the story?

E: just checked and Amazon picked it up after S3 and continued through S6. No confirmation on new seasons :(

This is why I’d rather read the books at this point. The show is good as it is I think, but from what little I spoiled of the last 3 books, I can see them turning it into a dumpster fire. They’ve already ruined Wheel of Time by season 2. I don’t see why people can’t just stick to the original material more.

So much of the ending is almost… almost Lovecraftian. That I really don’t think they could do it justice.

If I’m remembering the end of his story, thats kinda part of the Lovecraftian thing I was getting at.

The last seasons of KOTH weren’t that great plus Dale’s VA passed away, so I don’t have high hopes. At least they aged the characters, so they can’t completely rely on nostalgia.

But now that I think about it, if Hank’s retired, then wouldn’t most episodes be about Bobby? There’s only so much you can do with Hank, Bill, and Boomhauer since you can’t use Dale, and Dale is the one who drives the plot in the latter seasons. Having Joseph and Connie be his coworkers would be completely contrived, so I guess the characterization of Bobby’s coworkers would be what makes or breaks the new season?

Edit: I saw the new intro. I laughed when Bill got Covid, so I guess they haven’t completely lost touch.

I try to keep in mind the old phrase “ain’t nothin’ so bad it ain’t good for somethin’”

…OK I’m pretty sure that’s just a Norwegian phrase that I calqued and then convinced myself was a thing people actually say. But the point is in any case that although I’m not expecting a new season of KOTH to be good television – the new season of Futurama wasn’t IMO – making an animated TV show is still a collaborative, semi-chaotic and laborious effort between loads of people. The people working on this KOTH reboot, we can only hope, will take the skills they built and lessons they learned from it, and use them to make something better. For the rest of us, if we don’t like it, we can just call it officially-licensed fanfiction, or some slop to beget more slop in the form of reviews and overly-long video essays.

Hulu somehow ruined Futurama worse than comedy central, and with their weird bans on stuff like alcoholic imagery, this is going to be a massive disappointment.

The new Beavis and Buttheads seasons are fairly decent. Have actually never seen King of the Hill so no idea if this will be the same.
