I suppose they want to send a message to Turkey. This is not about Syria directly, but about Turkeys ambitions in Syria. The protector of the Syrian state changed, previously Russia guarded the border region with a military base, now they are gone and Turkey wants to step in. Turkish Military advisors are already present in Damascus afaik. I consider Turkey to be the strongest military force in the region, stronger than Egypt; Irans route is basically cut off through Iraq and Northern Syria now; Israel and the US do not want to have them closer.
Also this is about the Situation in Lebanon right next to the Golan heights, where Israel operates drones and wants to act undisturbed by outside interference.
