Deacon Lunchbox was a unique performance artist and poet who died tragically at the hands of a drunk driver along with two members of the very fine Atlanta band The Jody Grind.
Kelly Hogan of the Jody Grind and subsequently many other bands wrote this fine piece about him: https://magnetmagazine.com/2017/02/14/from-the-desk-of-the-flat-five-just-the-tip-of-the-tip-of-the-iceberg/
She also wrote a description of the accident here that’s such a good piece of writing: https://www.tumblr.com/hoganhere/10118062681/this-is-my-favorite-picture-of-my-first-real-band?source=share
Here also is The Jody Grind live: https://youtu.be/hUiCTmXY8_w
Hogan has gone on to sing in many other bands, including with Neko Case, Mavis Staples, and the Decemberists, as well as her own solo albums.

That Tumblr piece was excellent. And her voice… wow.
I’m glad you liked it! She’s such a funny cool person.
