Love the list, I need to watch Coal Miner’s Daughter. Just want to note that Amadeus is historical fiction. One of the greatest movies of all time, but it’s not a biopic.

Erin Brochovich is also noted for its “inspiration” rather than attempt to tell the true story. Rudy (1993) is a personal favorite that is technically based on a true story but it isn’t a true story.

Well all true stories are based on actually events which means they are complete works for fiction.

Every single movie on my list is historical fiction as are all biopics.

Amadeus’ main plot is about a rivalry that never happened. That’s like saying Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is a biopic on all those historical people they meet. It’s pure fiction. Biopics are not pure fiction, even if nearly all of them fictionalize at least a few things.
