Since the article was written the amount donated has surpassed 2 million. The family own a multimillion dollar ranch in Texas and a house in LA that they rent out for $144K a year.

i’m thinkin i should just start a gofundme for fuck-all reason just to get some money because apparently people just love to give people fucking money for any reason at all on that platform

  • when the initial story hit (with a quick plug for the gofundme), i took it at face value that maybe the family had fallen on harder financial times from years of medical treatment, because I can’t even remember the last time i saw James “The Chin” van der Beek in media.

however, my reaction was not to give $ to a once rich celebrity heart throb. it was to connect with my primary care doc and make sure to schedule a colonoscopy, because the stats are already crazy and getting crazier in the US for colorectal cancer ocurring in younger and younger people. guy got diagnosed stage 3 at 46… they generally don’t start screening til ~45 when they should probably make that 35.

ludicrous to ask for charity when you make six figures of rental income from property in LA. like stfu.
