I was a huge fan of Futurama since it first aired, but each revival has been less interesting. I watched a couple episodes of this one and then dropped it. I still watch the first 5 seasons.

Honestly the latest season was really disappointing. IIRC most of the jokes were just references to popular episodes.

Yeah, I didn’t even finish the first Hulu season. Seems like I made a good choice.

Once they started leaning more heavily on current events/pop culture it was clear the show had run its course.

I like that the Hulu seasons saw the terrible “eye-phone” episode, Attack of the Killer App, and thought they should use that premise for every episode.

the terrible “eye-phone” episode, Attack of the Killer App,

Terrible? That’s one of the best episodes. Almost prescient. Also where we got the “shut up and take my money” line.

Where they messed up is not having talent or humor and forgetting to be original and funny.

TBH I watched 2 episodes of season 8 and forgot to keep watching they were so unremarkable.

Hmm, 2010 does put it earlier than I thought, although I’m still not sure if that makes it prescient.

That being said, if you watch the episode a lot of the jokes aren’t just dated, but fail to land at all due to be so tied to pop culture. That’s not even counting the very bizzare, somewhat rude, Susan Boyle/Susan Boil bit.

That’s not even mentioning that it’s structure/concept are mirrored in the Hulu/Bitcoin/Amazon/Covid episodes of the first Hulu season. Where they just take a current thing from pop culture and build an episode around it. Unlike the earlier episodes, the entire plot (and most of the humor) revolve around a concept that won’t be relevant in the future (like how Twitter doesn’t even exist anymore).

Yea they copied it because its one of the most popular episode. The susan boil thing was some pretty spot on social commentary. The entire episode was some pretty spot on social commentary.

Holy crap, how many times are they going to cancel, then revive this show!? Like The Simpsons, let it die already. The quality and passion is clearly not there anymore…
