What is truth? What, in the search for truth, to find the guilt or innocence of man, to decide the fates of others, is permissible?

“I know this guy is guilty. Because I’ve got a feeling, a hunch. Just look at him! He’s so <insert outgroup here>. He’s got to be guilty! It would be a damn travesty, a terrible injustice, for this guilty man to go free just because of some minor technicality like a complete lack of any evidence. I know! I’ll make some evidence! Then I’ll be the hero who saved the day and took this dangerous, obviously guilty man off the streets!”
They literally believe this stuff. I was just arguing with a cop who was trying to tell me that every single person arrested was guilty so they don’t need to worry about the presumption of innocence when doling out violence.
Only mildly terrifying.
I hope someone uses AI to make some evidence against them.
