I mean, everyone should be free to do whatever they want with their body, and at the same time they shouldn’t be judged for that? Also I ain’t clicking that link, but ‘nudity’ and ‘hypersexual things’ are somehow in the same category?

Honestly, I feel like we crossed a line at some point where nudity in movies feels unnecessary.

I’m not sure if it’s the proliferation of porn in our society, or being more conscious about everything pandering to the male gaze, or the huge number of rapists in powerful positions, or just being cynical about everything, but I can’t remember the last time I saw nudity in a movie or TV show that didn’t come off as exploitative.

Personally I could do without gore, torture and weapon fetish bullshit as well, but I’ve also never looked at an action extra getting shot in the head or a stuntperson being lit on fire and wondered if they felt exploited or if they felt pressured to sexually gratify some powerful exec that could ruin their career.

I think it finally sank in that every time a woman was going on screen, it was a deliberate choice. The suspension of disbelief just stopped being doable for a lot of us, and now the question ‘was this actor coerced into this nude scene’ is always coming to mind. And we know that for a lot of them, saying no to a nude scene early on is potentially a career-slower, so saying may not even feel like an option for them.

That’s at least why I’ve somewhatsoured on vapid nudity in films.

Are there even any disney princesses left for her to play? Haven’t they pretty much butchered all of them already?

Let huge conglomerates dictate what projects they work on and what to do with their bodies in the off chance it’s what determines their eligibility to work on future projects with them?

She has a dream, and has a plan to follow that dream. Plus she’s snubbing the Hollywood nudity thing, which I imagine is a lot of pressure for a young woman.

But sure, let’s gloss over that part. 👍

I’m not glossing over anything. Her plan should not have to include acquiescing to a random company’s perceived morality concerns, which they regularly break for the right people. If she does not want to do nudity or hypersexualization that is her prerogative, but the only factor in that decision should be her personal desire to do so.

A lot of medical residents in the US work 80 hour shifts in pursuit of their goals. I would never say “good for them, more people should do that”. I would definitely say that no one should have to be in that position to achieve their goals and we should do more as a society to prevent that from being acceptable. Not everything done in pursuit of noble or value neutral goals is good or should be emulated.

Women should be allowed to be both sexual and a princess. Maintaining the idea that they can’t perpetuates the Madonna Whore complex which is counter to women’s liberation. I’m not saying she’s perpetuating that, but Disney certainly is if that’s actually a concern actresses should have.
