  • I’m an American living in Canada. Black Friday happens here and it’s really weird to me. In the USA, it happens the day after Thanksgiving, which always falls on a Thursday. So Black Friday makes sense because many people have Friday off (or take it off) and so they have a day to shop for the upcoming holiday season.

In Canada, Thanksgiving does not happen on the same day as in the USA. It happens on a Monday in October. But Black Friday still happens the day after American thanksgiving, which is basically just a random Friday in November for Canadians.

The only thing I will mention is that I don’t know of any Canadian who lines up outside stores for them to open so they can snatch a crappy deal on a TV. I’m sure it happens, but I think most Canadians just need to go to work.

Merivale is the one that will probably close soon. A few months ago, they sold the property and put the “store closing” signs up, but took them down when the sale fell through. I assume it will close again when they sell the property again.

The only one that I believe hasn’t closed or tried to close is the St. Laurent one. Even the one in Gatineau apparently had closing signs, but I don’t know if they actually closed or not yet.

  • With respect, I think you are confusing technical simplicity with ease. Technically, it is very simple to lose weight. Just eat fewer calories than you consume. But there is a huge psychological, financial and often biological component to it as well. When some people lose weight, it doesn’t cause them to feel like shit, or cause them cravings they can’t ignore, or cause them to have diabetic issues. People with thyroid conditions may be extremely lethargic and have trouble exercising. People who are lower income may have a difficult time buying healthy food for their family (actually one of the biggest predictors of being overweight).

As an example, when I was a teenager, I smoked with my friends casually. I didn’t find that tobacco did much for me though, so when I no longer hung around those friends, it was easy for me to not smoke. However, I have seen how difficult it is for others around me to quit smoking. It is technically simple to stop smoking. Just don’t smoke anymore. But it isn’t easy for a lot of people.

So it may be “easy” for some healthy, active, middle class to upper class person with no health conditions or psychological issues that would prevent them from dieting to lose weight, but that doesn’t make it easy for everyone. It’s technically simple to do, but saying that makes it easy is very dismissive of the struggles people go through when dieting.

  • I used to live in Phoenix, Arizona and I don’t blame her for driving. They NEED better public transit there. On the occasion my wife and I couldn’t drive, it was often faster to walk for literal hours than take the bus. Phoenix is the definition of sprawl. It upset me so much when people were complaining about the city extending the light rail.

All that said, this article is pure cope. She bought a truck that makes a political statement and is upset that people don’t like that it makes a political statement.

  • It’s also the way they make cheap LED headlights. The reflectors that direct the beam of light in your headlights expects the filament of the bulb to be in a very specific spot, but LED headlights often have a much wider area where the light emits from than the little filament that traditional headlights do. So when installed in cars that aren’t designed for LEDs, the beam pattern can be off and make the light shine at people instead of down toward the road.
