I dislike having the hyphens key as a dead key

Yeah, that sucks. You can have the best of both worlds in Linux by using the US keyboard with the “English (intl., with AltGr dead keys)” keyboard variant. This way, all your qwerty keys will work normally, but you can tell it a key combination is coming up by tapping AltGr. So you can for instance type + <"> + <u> to make ü or + <s> + <s> for ß. If I remember correctly, there is a way to make Windows do the same.

And in KDE at least, you can use any key you like to perform the function of AltGr. I suppose other DE’s can do the same.</s></s></u>

Not GP, but: Realplayer compressed everything to hell, the quality was absolutely atrocious. I believe it was buggy as well.

Quicktime was a behemoth that took ages to launch. To speed things up, it liked to auto-load and be active in the system tray, slowing system start down even further and taking up precious ram on the off chance that you might want to watch a quicktime video. It also liked to register itself as the video player of choice for other formats, because why would you use a decent player if you can use a shitty one that was made by Apple? Fuck quicktime.

On the flip side, it makes some people extremely wealthy. See, there’s an upside to everything!

That’s all too abstract and too emphatic. They have the power and the money and so far any problem they’ve had, they’ve been able to solve by using either their power or their money. Clearly, they believe that will be the case in the future as well. And so they cling to their sources of wealth and power because they think those will keep them safe.

That indeed doesn’t bode well for our future, whether it’s about the climate, AI, nuclear power or anything else.
