  • It’s not true. Steel is a non-combustible metal and these rockets are fueled with Methalox. Methane is not an ozone depleting chemical and neither are its combustion products. Physical effects and chemical by-products from satellite re-entry are linked to ozone depletion, so Starlink is the actual thing that SpaceX is doing to fuck it up, as /u/boiledfrog mentioned.

The water vapor added to the air from methane combustion can impact polar cloud formation that might have some impact on ozone layer replenishment, but there’s a lot of complexity there and seemingly even things like groundwater well usage may have impacts on this.

  • So you’re telling me the Boer CEO of a private military contractor company somehow mysteriously got access to an unprecedented quantity of real cop equipment and then halfassedly printed out a bunch of liberal protest signs to leave on the passenger seat?

And you’re telling me that he received minimal to no pushback from police as he carried out multiple political assassinations, specifically targeting DFL politicians so that Republicans could gain the majority in the state?

And the state recommended that the protest be cancelled, so the cops can just go ahead and bungle the manhunt long enough for him to maybe get a couple more kills in?

Wow, I think I need to formally apologize to Tom Clancy. Turns out he’s not as much of a hack as I thought. America just really is this stupid.

  • EREVs or REx EVs aren’t the same thing as a hybrid car. Lemme break down all the different steps along the way.

ICE cars - fully gasoline powered, the powertrain is an internal combustion engine which sends rotational energy from the crankshaft through a transmission and down a driveshaft that turns the wheels.

Hybrid Cars - This is also called a Parallel Hybrid. It adds a small battery and electric motor to the mix which go through a “power split device”, a planetary gear device that functions like a combination of a transmission and a differential. The electric motor can power the wheels, or the ICE engine can power them. The battery is only able to be recharged through Regen braking or from the alternator when the ICE engine is running. Typically the electric motor only is used at low speeds or when beginning to move forward from a stop.

Plug-in Hybrid Cars - Still a Parallel Hybrid. The difference is that the battery is larger and you have the ability to plug it in to recharge the battery. You’re also able to travel some distance entirely from the electric motor. Typical electric range is under 80km/50 mi.

Extended Range Electric Cars - Also called a series hybrid. The ICE engine cannot power the wheels at all, it is a generator which recharges the battery. The electric motors provide 100% of the power to the wheels. It’s a battery electric vehicle with a gasoline-powered generator taking up some of your trunk space in exchange for recharging your battery.

Battery Electric Cars - No ICE engine at all, it’s just the battery and the electric motor.

  • NK has pretty wide access to a national network called Kwangmyong, which to my memory and understanding most closely operates like an intranet/extranet system. You have access to useful local resources at factories, government buildings, libraries, universities, etc. This really encouraged me to start moving my own stuff over to self-hosting because it was just so much nicer to use things in this way.

Then you have access to lighter stuff like news, weather, texting, etc. over the mostly 2g/3g mobile network. Honestly it’s very much like having a phone from 2008.
