Yeah, libs will occasionally take good stances when they’re out of power. Now they will be principled anti-interventionists and say they care about international law, the War Powers Act, etc. It can be useful from time to time. Then when they get in power it’s “we tortured some folks” this and leaving Guantanamo open that.
A lot of sci-fi falls into the trap of being so enamored with the (often cool) setting that it forgets to be a good story.
