Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are the majority Venezuelans actually happy trump just stole their president?
12·1 month agoSure thing, but they don’t expect trump to actually improve the state of the country, right? Like, nobody can be this naïve…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So apparently full stops in texts are 'passive agressive' now. What other unwritten rules for texting have changed over the last couple of decades?
2·2 months agoWell you’re used to writing “you” instead of “u” while texting (for the record, I also always write “you”). Similiarly, a lot of people (namely those who grew up with phones), are used to omitting full stops at the end of a message, so if someone does it it must be a conscious decision. See where I’m going with this? (Also it’s not like people who use them are immediately sounding passive-aggressive, context matters)

65·2 months agoLeaving out unnecessary characters makes you type faster, that’s also why people write u instead of you sometimes

well I really fucking hope you have not forgot about that second part…
I’m sorry but my “Has no idea of Nietzsche but thinks otherwise” detector really goes off when I hear statements like “Nietzsche was fascist” or similiar.
This. Never understood the term in the first place, is this something I’m not american enough to understand? Isn’t there a substantial difference between right-liberal and left-liberal?
fair point, though using high speed rail speeds as a comparison is kind of unfair as high speed rail still is pretty rare in europe (excluding france and spain I guess), in germany for example a train journey that only makes use of high speed tracks is basically non-existent and expanding high speed rail infrastructure takes a long time. It makes a lot more sense imo to use 160 km/h as a speed for comparison.
Your point probably still holds, as although it takes an insane amount of time to build hsr infrastructure it is happening and will continue to happen.
what about short-haul flights? Routes such as Berlin-Copenhagen seem to make sense, as in: Not as fast as a plane but faster than a train and possibly cheaper than both (using hydrogen airships). I don’t know much about airships but that is what came to my mind (besides obviously the freight side of things that is being researched).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Irreligious people, what's it like having kids when your parents are religious?English
13·1 year agoWhen my grandma found out my parents decided to not get me baptized, she showed up at our place with a jar of holy water, and tried to baptize me (newborn at the time) herself. My dad managed to distract her from me, and eventually she left.
We are not angry at her at all; she was just really scared that I would go to hell if I suddenly died. For us, it’s more of a funny story that we tell from time to time.
