Mods literally got replaced by reddit because they refused to capitulate.
I’m not a fan of reddits choices, but if I was deeply involved in a community I’d consider staying to be part of that community still.

You do know that Excel is used in every job right?
I think strawberry pop tarts have less frosting than all other flavors.
It’s petty and small, but every time I have a strawberry pop tart the frosting is so thin that the holes on the top are clear through the frosting. No other flavor has this problem. I don’t think it matters, but it feels like a conspiracy.
There are several jobs that are frequently mentioned in discussions like this that are actually thanked all of them time.
Nurses, teachers, fire, EMTs and police are always mentioned. They are hard jobs and mostly under paid. However they are constantly thanked, businesses give discounts and commercials and politicians thank them endlessly.
Grocery store workers, butchers, plumbers, electricians, custodians, truck drivers and most “menial jobs” are completely thankless. Think of the last time you saw a 10% off for nurses and if you’ve ever seen 10% off for overnight stockers.
It reminds me of the future Borg from Voyager.
I love that episode.
And the moral of “I can get stuff just by asking for it!” Is a real lesson.
I agree with their politics, I just feel that plot took a hit to allow them to soapbox more. Aliens lost what made them alien and became humans with make up.
My issue isn’t the message, to me it felt like the lecturing of DISCO with fart jokes.
I was really disappointed with the most recent series of Orville. I feel they moved from social commentary to being preachy and smug.
The biggest example of this is the time travel episode in season 3. You have someone who has established a life and has kids and real character growth, who wants to be able to live the life they established after being abandoned for 20 years. On the other hand you have Seth McFarland saying that it’s bad. There isn’t any real discussion of what right is, it’s just McFarland saying that he’s right and then circumventing any resistance. It ends with McFarland being smug he did the right thing and having no self reflection on the damage he did.
To be clear, I’m all about social commentary in my sci-fi but I feel like anything interesting is diluted to make it a closer parallel to earth. The Moclans went from a unique all male species, to having a rare minority that allowed for discussion of trans rights, to in season 3 being 50-50 split and a tired gender war trope.
I think the Orville has gotten lazy and moved further and further away from having interesting plots to talk about big ideas and moved more towards character driven drama and lazy hamfisted commentary.
My wife and I have basically replaced TV with audiobooks. We get to read a book together and we can do something while listening.
I love them.
But it is the question.
OP wants to know if fairphone will last 10 years. The retort is that even if you can have a phone that is supported for 10 years, you won’t want to use it that long.
I’m confident that on my deathbed my biggest regret will be being bored while stuck in an airport for a day.
People under the age of 25 tend to be really bad at the Internet. The number of times high schoolers or college kids are mystified by how I’m able to get information quickly from search engines is beyond me.
I’m not surprised they can’t tell what’s real, they can’t search for tiny details like “transmission time to Mars” or “gravity on mercury”.
Both of my parents did 23 and me (or one of the two) and I officially have boring ancestry. Both of my parents come from the same general region, my father has less than 1% of anything else and my mother is 1% Italian.
I wanted to find something interesting in there.
“the soulless agents of orthodoxy!”
I think it’s both an issue if hardware support and being the little guy.
If Linux wants to be bigger it needs to change it’s selling point. People have been conditioned to think of free software as bloated ad-fests by their phones. My wife was asking how I liked Linux and I could only describe apps as the early Android app store where everything was free and generally great.
Calling out Windows for privacy issues doesn’t have too much sway. Mostly because the damage is done, people have posted on Facebook and agreed to every tracker, what’s one more? Calling out Windows for being slower, showing you ads all the time and taking away features might have more traction.
I just swapped to Linux, and it’s harder to use than windows, sort of.
I still can’t get one headphone jack to work on my case and my wifi printer/scanner can’t be controlled on the printer anymore. Troubleshooting has two modes, a step by step instructions set that either works or doesn’t, or highly technical stuff that is above my expertise.
Delta green is great.
I love how TTRPGs are the model for having a quality product means people will buy it. It’s not difficult to pirate everything, and many systems are just flat out free. And yet I buy most of it.
Brave is chromium.
One of my biggest complaints about TLJ was how poor the plot was. It’s surprising because Rian Johnson has some of the best thought out plots in his other movies.
The slow speed chase didn’t make sense, the empire first order could see they were heading to a planet. Finn and Rose had time to leave, go to another planet and come back without issue, why weren’t they scattering parts of the fleet and people the whole time?
Worst, the entirety of the movie didn’t move the plot forward. At the end of TFA Rey is a nascent Jedi searching for a place to fit in, Kylo is struggling with his path trying, Finn is trying to fit in and Poe is a hotshot pilot. At the end of TLJ no character advanced, they are all in the same spot.
I would have preferred if they did some really weird stuff, like Rey becomes Kylo’s student to save everyone else. Will she redeem him or be corrupted? Will she be a double agent? What exactly are the goals of the first order? Can they be subverted into something good?
After TLJ I didn’t care what was going to happen to anyone, and still don’t.
Just eat them.
There is no trick that will make you think an apple is actually pie or make kale taste just like potato chips.
Try new stuff. Go to the Asian grocery store and buy random fruits and veggies you haven’t seen before and try them. Worst case you hate them, but you seem to be there already, best case you love them.
