I think there’s a fine line between collaboration and committee (members of a band can collaborate to make good music). But capitalism definitely works against art.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I'd like to ask everyone, which movie have you rewatched more than three times?
2·1 month agoFifth Element was at the top of my movies that I would stop and watch when scrolling cable channels alongside Top Secret, Clue, and Shawshank.

1·2 months agoGrateful Dead, especially live albums.
You are thinking only of the modern G rating. Go back in time a bit to find G rated movies like:
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Planet of the Apes
- The Secret of NIMH
- many John Wayne movies including True Grit
Just like society’s thoughts on what is generally acceptable, the mpaa rating system has changed quite a lot over the years.

News@lemmy.world•'Worst of the Worst'? DOJ Figures Show 97.4% of 614 Detained Immigrants in Chicago Had No Criminal Record
8·5 months agoIt’s even worse if they’re using “criminal record” the same way the FBI has historically (arrested but not necessarily convicted on a felony charge).
I don’t have up to date numbers, but c.2016 the FBI considered ~29% of Americans to have a criminal record.
Of course they should. Where else would I get my snilk from?

3·5 months agoA grand jury is a sort of sanity check on a charge, and does not count towards the trial. It is basically “with these facts (provided only by the prosecution), is there enough probable cause to move a case to trial?”. Double jeopardy in the 5th amendment has specific protections from going to trial multiple times or from getting multiple punishments for a crime.

It took my old ass way too long to realize that you were talking about the Imagine Dragons song (which was definitely overplayed) and not the absolute banger of a song from The Firm.

Hell, R was being used in colleges in 2000. Unfortunately, whether it was SPSS for the soft sciences or forcing stats work in Matlab for the engineers, professors always seemed bad at promoting the right tool for the job.
