caos@feddit.orgOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•FediDB Onboarding 🚀 : "Introducing Welcome, a new fediverse onboarding experience powered by FediDB."English24·3 months agoIf you select ‘Forum Discussions’ under ‘What type of content do you want to see or share?’, NodeBB, Lemmy, mbin, Piefed and Lotide are then recommended. That fits well.
But if you select ‘Social Media Post + ’Forum Discussions", Mastodon, Misskey and other microblogging services are recommended, as well as Lemmy. But not mbin, which actually offers exactly this combination, and also not Friendica, which can do micro-/macroblogging, but also offers forums/groups and federates best with both directions.
So it’s perhaps a little under-complex, but nicely done and a good new contact point for interested people.
caos@feddit.orgto Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•Recommendations for a solarpunk-friendly Mastodon instance?English11·3 months ago“Moé for Solarpunk is a small, friendly server run by a group of optimistically-utopian LGBT+ individuals. Registration is by invite only!” https://solarpunk.moe/about Maybe write to them and ask for an invite? (with reference to your Lemmy account, which shows that you would fit thematically)
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Did you know? Lemmy instances with *key instances!English6·4 months agoIs this like Tumblr or something?
I think Misskey and its forks are among the Fediverse services that are not modelled on a specific commercial platform, but have created something completely their own.
The forks differ in details (see comparison), but the user experience is relatively similar.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Kann man das Mastodon Konto verknüpfen?
Hubzilla (macroblogging service in the Fediverse) can also be used to create and collaborate on wikis.
I can only find a German-language manual for this right away: https://help.hubzilla.hu/benutzerhandbuch/wikis.html
Open Library is the main data source for Bookwyrm for book data. Bookwyrm is an application in the Fediverse that can be used to find and write reviews of books. I wouldn’t see that as a contradiction.
I actually think that too. But unfortunately, Mastodon is the only project outside the Fediverse that has been reported on by high-reach media. As a result, universities and the scientific community are now very fixated on Mastodon, without knowing that there are more alternatives in the Fediverse that might have been more suitable for them.
After all, before choosing a server, the first crucial step is to choose the software/service that can be used to access the Fediverse. But even that was repeatedly presented as ‘too complicated’, so that almost everyone was directed to Mastodon.
The questions that were skipped during onboarding are then asked later by almost everyone and have to be answered individually for everyone.
“Also I’ve started a Friendica manual at https://help.friendica.onl but it needs to get content.”
Maybe you may translate some content from this guide: https://friendica-hilfe.gitbook.io/friendica-hilfe ?
Most of the functions should be instance-independent (although loma.ml has activated many add-ons)
The article in the JoinFediverseWiki is very short. It could be expanded a little. I used to have an editor account for the wiki, maybe I’ll find the time to reactivate it.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Are there any pixelfed to lemmy "bridges" or can I view lemmy communities in pixelfed?Deutsch1·6 months agodoes this mean that the option to receive text posts no longer exists OR is this option now the default setting?
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Is there a Fediverse equivalent to MySpace or SpaceHey?English101·6 months agoSharkey is also for microblogging but it also has some extra features, including user sites that can be used as a kind of blog and it “can play module / tracker music files - can play Flash (swf) - (federated) listenbrainz integration, …”
I haven’t tried these functions yet
The mastodon apps work, but generally only offer the mastodon functions. Fedilab may offer a little more.
There is also Dhaaga: A "client for various social networking platforms and protocols.
🩵 Bluesky 💙 Mastodon 💚 Misskey 💛 Pleroma 🩷 Sharkey 🧡 Cherrypick 💜 Akkoma"
edit: sorry, forgot to read that you are looking for iOs
There is already a more up-to-date version of the second graphic (including mbin and loops):
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experienceEnglish3·6 months agoYes, Lemmy accounts can only follow/subscribe to groups (besides Lemmy also mbin, piefed + also Peertube), but not individual accounts. A Lemmy account can only communicate with individual accounts if they write something in a community. That is one of the aims of mbin, to connect them: The structure of communities /magazines + a microblog feed.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experienceEnglish6·6 months agoYes, Sharkey is a microblogging service and it can’t create headings, but it still displays them correctly. Among other things, this is better than with Mastodon.
caos@feddit.orgto Fediverse@lemmy.world•How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experienceEnglish14·6 months agoOk, with all pictures in replies it doesn’t work yet or only in the other direction: This Lemmy thread seen from Friendica + Mastodon
Friendica shows all pictures of Lemmy, both in posts and in replies. The other way round only in OP.
I once made a small guide to this here: 🚀 A little guide on how to communicate with Lemmy from Mastodon, Friendica, Hubzilla, Sharkey etc
This is the case with all content (posts + replies) on Mastodon, as it appears separately in the timeline. In this case, it has nothing to do with Lemmy.
Yes, this is Loops: “Loops is a short video sharing platform.”.
However, if I am correctly informed, the planned federation with the Fediverse has still not been realised.
Why " with no required registration"? Where can you simply share videos without any account?
