All (most?) liqueurs we’re medicinal products at some point. We just stopped drinking them for health and now just for flavor. They also changed some formulas to make them cheaper / sweeter
Not if you’re French apparently
Elderberry is also a wonderful edible medicinal plant. Their berries are delicious and immune boosting

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does "learning to make beef jerky" count as a hobby for someone wishing to grow their hobbies? Or is it more accurately described as a culinary skill similar to barbecuing or slow-cooking or smoking?English
3·2 days agoMost of my hobbies involve consumables. I love to garden, cook, herbalism (tinctures, salves, teas, etc.) and foraging. Making jerky would totally fit in what I would love to do.
I love making things to share with friends, family and myself. Also I LOVE to eat and drink so it makes sense to focus my time and energy on it. Go for it dude

2·5 days agoI love a dumb comedy and RPDR. So I am going to see this movie. I love how the review suggested an edible so I guess I’ll take one before I watch it

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does your hobby have a "random person in Nebraska" project? If so, what is it?English
14·8 days agoI think most hobbies have a few legends of the hobby.
I recently got into learning about foraging. There’s is one dude is Wisconsin who basically wrote “The Book” on foraging. Samuel Thayer has basically rewrote what is and isn’t edible. He tried all the old sources himself as well as doing checking ethnobotany sources and asking people native to the region about every plant. He’s got three books and the ultimate field guide. All his books and titles are the source of the new AI slop foraging books out there.

I’m the planner for my friend group (maybe the secondary planner) and my wife is the planner for most of her friends. We just had a baby and now we can plan less so we have less events to go to.

3·11 days agoJob hopping is the best way to get better money and job title. It’s worth staying for a few years ever once in a while if you prefer the stability over the income bump. I am in my stable phase while my children are young before jumping again. I am thinking maybe 5 years or so. Unless the great job comes

2·19 days agoNothing wrong with liking it then because you didn’t know. If you never have anything you cringe / regret / embarrassed about when you are younger you either have done nothing or learned nothing.

7·19 days agoIn highschool a few friends of mine waited to get the final Harry Potter book when it was released. We all got a copy and then I think I finished it that night so I talked with one of my friends about it the next day at work. Great fun but a little embarrassing to admit now. Fuck J.K. Rowling

8·19 days agoMy first professional chemistry job had an older lab tech who used to always say when dealing with any acid.
“Do what you oughta, add acid to water”
It’s a fun saying especially because you need to mispronounce a few words to get it to rhyme correctly.
My local garden shop has it.
But if you are ordering online I use Flawn. They also do other bee lawns and other plants. I had used their English daisy and Self-heal with some success. It takes some time to flower so hard to tell if my sowing are slow bloomers or didn’t germinate.
I have a beautiful grass and clover lawn in MN. It hasn’t been much harder to get growing than typical grass. Xeriscaping isn’t typically what it’s called here the midwest
