Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The trash cans in Amsterdam have pizza slots
1·14 days agoUsually my pizza comes on wax paper or the like, and the box is either grease free or close enough (like a tiny spot or two).
Or it’s frozen/refrigerated, and wrapped on plastic, so, again, the box goes in recycle.
I don’t put soiled things in recycle, but you can’t tell, cause it rains often and everything ends up looking fucked.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There are adults who have never used the Facebook account that their parents set up for them when they were a baby.
5·14 days agoI don’t use my primary for anything but messenger, for a few contacts.
I have an alt I gamed with back in 2010ish, and I use that for anything at all that I actually do on FB… Like share info and resources, and show support on DeFlock groups. It has literally no connection to me, I connect wholly via VPN and an alt FB app.

Technology@beehaw.org•GTA 6's $1 million billboard goes up despite protests from local police as Rockstar's real-life Miami takeover gets underway
27·16 days agoI mean, I specifically like GTA because it allows me to rack up 4 stars and brutally and violently murder POS LEOs until they give up cause I’ve trashed their forces and they don’t have anything heavier to send at me.
I would be happy to see the same done in real life, but I doubt the outcome would be anywhere near similar.
I used to even spend hours on Assassin’s Creed just gutting cops, stealing their rides and running over thugs until I saw another set of cops to rob. Then I’d kill them, and take their ride, and…
Fuck the police!
Put hole under lower drawer for in flow and run a fan at a higher location, possibly under the top of the desk, for out flow.
Be prepared to add secondary fans under the drawer or the desk to increase airflow if necessary.

13·16 days agoNaw, just post like 10.2… the exact pennies doesn’t matter really. It would get printed on the receipt still, but doesn’t need to be displayed everywhere.

115·26 days agoTurning? There was never enough fraud to justify any effort, less you consider gerrymandering and unfair polling practices, or other efforts to limit voting rights or fair outcomes.

You can stay pretty anonymous.
There are those of us who wouldn’t mind just quietly popping by a week later and taking care of that for ya.
If any are close by it certainly might get done.

51·1 month agoSeems most people vote their feels or their chosen clan… Whoever they think they get along better with socially.
It seems few people seriously assess a politicians job qualification or work hisrory.
Heck, my SO just lets me do the work, but I refused to just let them copy my vote. I write up paragraph summaries for each candidate then a blurb explaining my choice. They can disagree if they want, it’s okay. I don’t look to see how they vote, or ask, but they basically tell me they trust me and just wanna copy me.
It’s honestly pretty upsetting.
And I bet one partner in most relationships just does the same, or votes party line, or just generally doesn’t give a hoot but votes anyway.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Do any self hostable security cameras support a VPN to upload footage to another site?English
3·1 month agoAnything that is just local hardware can be saved or copied to an encrypted cloud drive of your choosing, via VPN if that’s what you want.
You don’t have to use a security cam system that hosts the cloud storage, or acts as a middle man between you and a live feed.
There are local systems that can host remote access portals too.
These things existed before things like ring or wyze…

55·1 month agoI have no problem with being able to verbally ask a computer to do basic useful things, it’s a far more advanced PC-human inferface than the computer mouse…
But beyond that, meh. I get how it can be used by science to solve complex issues or analyze large datasets, and that’s cool, but I don’t need anything on my PC more calable than an aide that can set a timer for me, or thereabouts.
If it can’t already do something with way fewer errors than people, than it shouldn’t be doing that yet.
If it can, then we might as well put it to work.

News@lemmy.world•Man caught living for 8 years among half-ton of trash in national forest, feds say
5·3 months agoThe items listed weren’t necessarily waste, pans and tires and part bikes and barrels and recyclables he may have collected to turn in for coin… He may have cleaned up other areas in order to collect some of the stuff he had at his site, we don’t know.
The people who clear campsites just estimate weight of all they remove and label it all ‘trash that they cleared’… But it’s never is.
That’s like calling all the plants in my yard weeds, just cause you don’t like them.

Every day stuff out, or if having stuff often for a few weeks, like being on a toast binge.
But if not using for over a week most stuff should be put away.
We keep microwave and instapot accessible, but toaster is really a few times a year thing. Blender is probably more often, but still rare.
