Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, is going to government schools in Maharashtra and revealing their poor conditions. In the school in his native village, windows were broken and the toilets did not have running water. After his visit, local officials and villagers found benches and a computer for the school.
He knows how to speak. He said ‘We have made a new Parliament and a new PM house. Why have we not been able to build schools in our villages? Do we not consider the children of farmers and labourers the future of our country?’ Even the main opposition politicians have forgotten to speak like this. Also good that he is going to villages and listening to people. The villages have been ignored under the BJP and still have socialist tendencies.

Also the Cockroach party asked its supporters not to shout Jai Bhim (a popular Dalit slogan) at rallies.
The Cockroach Party was started by an Indian-American student. I don’t know if it is some CIA group, but it is mostly supported by only the urban middle class youth. They are more active on the internet, so you see them more. But most protestors are students with real issues (low marks will ruin their future). Opposition parties including the left parties are supporting them.
No, the Cockroach Janata Party is a joke party. They get media attention because it’s funny and annoys the government. But the protestors are mainly students whose school board and college entrance marks got affected by the government’s corruption and incompetence. Another group is Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters. They want environmental protections for the Ladakh region. Then many opposition parties are supporting the protest to put pressure on the government.
There are different groups protesting, and I have a feeling that some are trying to take all the credit / put themselves in the centre.
Many groups are protesting in Delhi and other cities. Modi and his friends appointed incompetent people to conduct public examinations. There were many problems, like question papers leaking and answer sheets not scanning correctly. So students and young people are angry. Another protest is about the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk. There is also a new political party called Cockroach Janata Party (“Cockroach People’s Party”, mocking the Bharatiya Janata Party and a comment made by the Supreme Court Chief Justice).
India had one of the hottest and driest summers this year. Now the monsoon is approaching Keralam in southwest India, but it will still take many weeks for it to cover all of the country.

This is a common mistake in many Western media. Indians go to the gulf (UAE, Qatar, Oman) because the salary and work conditions are better. Conditions are not that good in Saudi and Bahrain, but you still get paid better than here.
After the US attack on the unarmed Iranian ship IRIS Dena, two other Iranian ships have docked at Kochi, India, and Colombo, Sri Lanka. Also 22 sailors from Dena have been released from hospital.

General strike in India
Farmers, trade unionists and bank employees will go on strike today (Feb 12) to protest the new union Labour Codes, the replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act with the much weaker VB GRAM scheme, and allowing private investment in nuclear energy.

India and the US have agreed to a ‘deal’, but there is confusion about the terms.
US President Donald Trump says India has agreed to stop buying oil from Russia, remove tariffs on US goods, and buy 500 billion dollars worth of goods from the US.
Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal says that agriculture and dairy products will be excluded. There are medical concerns over allowing dairy products from the US, as the food given to the cows includes animal parts. Farmers are also opposed.
Both sides agree that the US will reduce tariffs from 50% to 18%.
Indian Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi said that Prime Minister Modi is ‘compromised’ and ‘sold off your labour and blood and sweat’.

This is a joke. Kerala has no industry and does not grow enough food for itself. Its economy is based on tourism and exporting cash crops (wood, tea, spices, cashews and seafood) and educated people to the rest of India and abroad. (Doctors / nurses being from Kerala is a usual stereotype.)
The only Indian state that has any negotiating power with the union government is Tamil Nadu. This is why Tamil nationalism is a thing. But even they benefit from being part of a large country, so when you talk to people the demand is usually only for more federalism.
In Kerala, and many other Indian states, the tradition is for the ruling party to always lose the election. So the two big blocs - the Communist-led LDF and the Congress-led (social democrats + neoliberals + Muslims) UDF take turns. In 2021, the LDF won re-election because they handled Covid very well.
Kerala is a medium-sized state, and its government is led by the Communists, who are nationally in opposition. So this was achieved with very limited resources. But now other states can copy this. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are larger and richer states (still ruled by opposition parties), and currently have subsidised food programmes beyond the national ration system. TN is experimenting with other subsidies and schemes, and is important enough that the national government cannot ignore it.
Actually surprisingly high number among Muslims (32% satisfaction).
This is not surprising. Indian politics is very local. Most people are more affected by their panchayat (village council) / municipal and state governments than by the Indian government. So Muslims who live in places not ruled by the BJP probably don’t have strong opinions about Modi. Also Modi has a very carefully made ‘image’, where he tries to look his best.

Indian states have to follow borrowing and spending rules made by the national government. Normally this is a good thing because you don’t want a politician putting their state in debt to benefit their friends. But it limits how much money states can spend on welfare schemes.
People saw Pinarayi as capable but arrogant and not a friendly person. Even many party workers - in Keralam and other states - did not like him. The new Congress (opposition) leader was seen as more friendly, humble and also adopted some ‘left’ language and policies.
One other thing now is that the left parties may recover in West Bengal because the BJP is ruling even worse than the TMC. And in Tamil Nadu, the new government is okay but not as good as previous DMK + Left government, so there is a chance there also. A Left or Left+ government in a large, rich state like TN or Maharashtra can avoid many of the problems the Left had in Bengal, Keralam and Tripura.
