I also block js and for most pages I only enable the scripts which are needed. After a few pages you will get feel.
It feels nice that I don’t need to enable a random script from oneClickTrackYouAndSellYourData.com and enable only the scripts needed for functionality.

wow yes thanks! photon would be exactly what I am looking for, but strangely enough it doesn’t display any images from other instances - neither community “profile pictures” nor images in posts or comments. Is this intended behaviour, does anybody else experience this?

EDIT: unblocking javaScript from various lemmy instances resolved the issue for me. Interesting that I only have to unblock feddit.org’s javaScript to see all images and with photon all javaScripts …
