are we sure that this “explosion” has even nearly enough energy to cause something like this?

Linux@programming.dev•What's your favourite "just works, day after day" Linux software?English
1·6 days agofunny, I also started around 2000 with Linux, so we have the same time under our belt. I remember doing manually dependency resolving downloading packages from freshmeat.net
Let’s be honest, I hated that “/etc/init.d/apache2 start” went obsolete, muscle memory and habit are a bitch, but you have to move on sometimes. Otherwise, are you really arguing that some obscure start-stop-daemon wrapper that sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t, because they were created for suse not redhat were superior?
systemd monitors the daemons, can show you used cpu time, can start daemons depending of if the system is connected to ac or uses battery or if a port got a magic package, it know which resources a service needs and much more, all without needing to manually write scripts. Do we really compare that to some scripts with bullshittery like:
case $1 in start): start-stop-daemon $service_name ;; *) echo fuck off exit 1 ;;sorry to be so blunt, and im pretty drunk saying this: sherly you can’t be serious, and don’t call me sherly.

12·10 days agohere you go: systemd is so much better then sysv-init, it’s not even funny
I really can’t take people serious that think sysv-init was the superior system. I mean for real, have you ever worked with it and all it’s shortcomings? It wasnt even a system, it was a bunch of bad init scripts

4·2 months agofunny thing is: almost everyone is inventing their own rules when playing monopoly. a proper round with the correct rules takes 30-60 mins tops.

2·2 months agosometimes you need to be stubborn and disallow all alternatives for better solutions to be developed. trying to use the big tech shit will inevitably always end in enshitification.
grow some balls, say no and create alternatives if they don’t budge. nothing else will work. and as soon as you have alternatives, everything will get easier
and then there is the pigeon in my backyard that won’t accept the corner is too small. Everytime it brings a new stick the previous falls down. i have a pile of sticks in my backyard, an elephant could comfortably put it’s egg’s in for fucks sake
I did that when I was 12. school sucked, going to bed meant, waking up an hour before school began. setting an alarm for the middle of the night changed that. nowadays I just go to bed, when the mid of the night alarm would have gone off

7·3 months agothe problem is the abuse of power. you won’t gain back trust by abusing power. this thinking is the reason it won’t happen

It’s baffling to me that everyone thinks it’s hard to explain.
Everyone has at least one most of the time two or more email addresses. From work, some from Gmail and / or Microsoft. everyone understands that sending email to other providers will work regardless.
Why is it so hard to apply the same concept to Lemmy?
