thrawn@lemmy.worldto Transformers@lemmy.world•I'm going to stop posting news stories hereEnglish1·1 month agoHi, quite belated but thank you for posting for as long as you did. I used to check this community regularly and you were, of course, about the only poster. I haven’t been around much since I’ve been busy recently, but for a while this was my primary source of Transformers news.
Hello, hope you do not mind additional questions.
If I block an instance on PieFed, do their votes count?

Tidal eventually stopped using MQA, but I can’t help feel leftover ick at their dishonesty.
thrawn@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Used Tesla prices tumble as embarrassed owners look to sellEnglish5·4 months agoYeah that tracks. I’ve always been comfort minded so the Model 3 feels really bad to me.
For materials, they’re like one step above hard plastic. They don’t feel like high quality versions of whatever material they are, if that makes sense. “Just… fine” is a good descriptor. Unfortunately I don’t spend a ton of time in its competitors so I may have been unfair to the materials by comparing it to more expensive options. And yeah, in my case the barebones interior feels less comfortable.
I do hope you keep liking the car! None of us ex Tesla supporters could have seen this coming, so it shouldn’t hinder your enjoyment.
thrawn@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Used Tesla prices tumble as embarrassed owners look to sellEnglish6·4 months agoI guess I wanna clarify that it’s bad in my opinion, not objectively. I’ll return to this later. I just don’t wanna seem like I’m shitting on your car or the reasons you got it.
Cars are typically comfortable when they have good ride quality and interior. The Model 3 has the absolute worst in both regards of any EV I’ve tried. The suspension is legendarily poor and is my primary complaint— it truly feels like punishment. As if every road imperfection was multiplied, not dampened. They could’ve given it the interior of an S class and I’d still find it uncomfortable. Yet the interior is sterile and features low quality materials. I tried my best to recall any one comfort besides heated seats, but I truly believe it is bereft of them.
So, back to how this is my personal opinion. I am a traditional comfort guy: good ride quality, creature comforts, high quality materials. For those who don’t care about that, the Model 3 is a great “get me there” vehicle. The software is good and it has ample driving assistance. The supercharger network is unrivaled if you don’t mind funding Musk (I do, so even though mine can now access the network I won’t use it). It’s very functional. Just not physically comfortable.
I’ll admit that most of the EVs I’ve tried are Model S competitors, not 3, but I’d still take either Ioniqs or the Mach-E over the 3. Also the latest Model 3 improved the suspension, but I’ve yet to try it
thrawn@lemmy.worldto Music@lemmy.world•Song of the Day: My Pal Foot Foot by The ShaggsEnglish21·4 months agoThat song gives me a physical revulsion every time I hear it. It’s more than just disliking a song. This is something that tries to pretend it’s a song, but ultimately isn’t. It’s unsettling. Like if a monkey skinned a person and dressed in that skin and carried on as if it were a person.
My Pal Foot Foot is a monkey wearing a human skin-suit and trying to be a human.
From an old reddit comment about this song. I don’t think it’s that bad, but maybe time has made it grow on me.
thrawn@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Used Tesla prices tumble as embarrassed owners look to sellEnglish3·4 months agoOne downside is that Teslas are uncomfortable. I liked them a lot circa 2016, the Model S used to be my favorite vehicle. They simply haven’t held a competitive advantage, or in the case of the 3/Y, are genuinely quite bad. I’d rather pay more for something better, and that was before the CEO became this.
I got my original ones from this unethical company that put them in tiny sealed enclosures. Well, from a gift shop that was selling them. When I realized how unethical it was later that day, I made a quick plan to break them out.
I’d recommend getting them from good breeders. There’s an eBay seller GotSnails who was, when I left reddit, a large contributor. Messaging him on Reddit was cheaper than the eBay store back then since he’ll just send an invoice. There’s also the supershrimp store.
They do breed in tank conditions! My original ones bred after the breakout. It can take a lot of time and some work making sure your conditions are good, but mine didn’t require anything.
All I did was get:
- a tank (well, a jar)
- some algae from supershrimp store. They don’t eat this algae but they eat what grows on it.
- some calcium carbonate pebbles which they need to molt successfully
- substrate for visual variety
- some rocks for them to hide in
- a test kit. Most don’t do this and it’s alright. I was just paranoid. It ended up being totally unnecessary in my case.
They’re a lot of fun and I highly recommend it. Feel free to respond if you have more questions or want specific links to what I’d do if I was starting afresh. You can choose from any ethical seller though.
Oh, I have shrimp. Mine are near zero care opae ula; I top off the tank with distilled water occasionally but that’s it. Well, and I have them on a light cycle so the algae grows.
Still, if anyone is interested or feels like shrimp would improve their lives, feel free to respond and I can help set up a new tank. Mine are truly near zero maintenance though so I don’t know if it would be a profound life change like OP’s.
thrawn@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla sales crash continues in Europe, with Germany down 70%English221·4 months agoWhat? A Model 3 starts at 42k (without the tax credit) or 299/mo for a lease. That’s below average for new cars in America, or significantly below average if you qualify for the tax credit. KBB says the average for a new car in December 2024 was nearly 50k.
And sure, not everyone can afford a new car, but very few Tesla buyers are “that kind of income” wealthy.
One thing I really like about the Lucid Air is that the big screen retracts. Makes it look and feel quite different, almost like an older car without the big screen.
Important controls like seats, temperature, and volume/pause are physical. So you can have the big screen when you want it, and it goes away when you don’t. More cars should do that, though the additional moving part probably isn’t great for longevity.
Yeah like. I want a large community and stuff but. The idea of a new Reddit preferring community is weirdly repellent.
I really don’t want to hate on their preferences but also holy shit.
Very few reasons to get a Tesla when Lucid exists. I can think of three good ones— price, software reliability, and concerns about the company’s health— but these aren’t enough to overcome the icky feeling of funding Musk and his aspirations for me.

I’ve been frustrated several times at what I perceive as Lemmy bias that borders extremism, but on the whole it’s perfectly reasonable. Essentially every response to the parent comment agreed with it (I have yet to see someone disagree but perhaps I haven’t scrolled enough).
Lemmy isn’t big enough to feel you need to stay, as Reddit was when comments like this were plentiful.

Will this solve eARC sync issues on existing devices that support 2.1? Like I could just get a new cable and it would work?
thrawn@lemmy.worldto unions@lemmy.ml•Jimmy Carter Was No Friend of Union Workers Like Me1·7 months agoTwo sentence comments get strawmanned, and since it’s not a work email, nobody has to read it. Manage your time better and skip it, skip this. Why bother with social media if you don’t want to read more than two sentences?
Not to get like, “back in my day about it”, but long comments and casual conversation used to be encouraged. Used to be seen as lazy to drop points for the sake of brevity. Your comments are short and this is the first time you’ve mentioned the actual topic since the og comment— potentially useful discussion is lost in the race to the bottom.
Poor political strategy is asinine. That one has real world effects.
thrawn@lemmy.worldto unions@lemmy.ml•Jimmy Carter Was No Friend of Union Workers Like Me1·7 months agoYeah I can monologue a bit, but I have found that explaining in full avoids miscommunication and eventually gets a real response. I do get the weak replies that can’t justify their own ideas, but in my entire time on Lemmy, I have always eventually gotten a real explanation. Even this time.
I’d wade through a hundred of yous to get to someone willing to engage in length. It’s always worth it.
thrawn@lemmy.worldto unions@lemmy.ml•Jimmy Carter Was No Friend of Union Workers Like Me11·7 months agoGood point and I generally agree. I suppose it comes down to:
But he’s not. At least not while he was president.
Almost every time someone praises Carter, it’s prefaced with “presidency aside”. His presidency has been looked down upon for decades. If he hadn’t followed it with decades of humanitarian service, he wouldn’t be remembered.
Perhaps I just don’t see the Dems’ lines about how he’s the ideal leftist. In that context I understand the need to discuss the bads. But having not seen, well, any praise ever for his life as a politician this article comes off as trying to keep leftist spirits down. Still, the Dems doing that would fit right into the MO, so yeah good point.
Yeah I did this way back with a different back exercise, rope pulldown. I had been taught the right way, slowly messed it up, then abruptly realized one day when someone pointed out that my arms were bent. Fixed my form and immediately injured myself because I did not consider that, without my arms, I should be doing a lower weight.
