They grabbed a tourist off the street and detained her for eight hours while her daughter was left to fend for herself on the streets. NYC y’all better be starting some shit

Tourists should avoid the USA (not to blame the tourists in this story, of course)

We can take a few american refugees, but we should limit it to the same measly numbers that the US has been accepting. That would be 50 000 per year.

Over a few millenia we could probably provide refuge for the vulnerable populations in the USA.

No, we don’t want American citizens anywhere else in the world, leave them in their containment nation.

They chose, overwhelmingly, the circumstances that they’re in.

a third of the country voted for this, another third decided not to vote and thus allowed this.

I’d say 30% are all for what’s happening and 10% are convinced the dems will put babies into to blenders and will always vote red. The remaining 10% switch their vote back and forth depending on how they feel about the economy. If they think it’s good the will vote for the incumbent, if they think it’s bad they vote for the other canidate. Then there are 2-3% of people that pick a random issue as their focus every year

Many of us are looking on in horror of what is happening. There is nothing we can do, lest we too be jailed, or worse, killed by the gestapo. Just waiting for them to come for me next. I really need to get a passport.

Just giving a bit of perspective. Fuck the United States.

Upvoted bc “containment nation” made me lol. I get the downvotes though, liberalism has been eroding our rights and our will to rebel for a couple of generations now.

I blame the parent. Nobody with the resources necessary for an international vacation has any excuse for being ignorant of the current political state of the US, our government is actively targeting visibly hispanic people regardless of legality and has not been quiet about it. Even if their trip had gone smoothly every dollar they spent here would be indirectly supporting the shit our government is doing. The child had no choice in the matter, the parent was a fucking moron who volunteered their child for a completely avoidable traumatic experience and helped fund Trump’s crimes in the deal.

It shouldn’t be, the evidence has been plentiful and easily available. It’s not particularly crazy either, evil for sure but entirely in line with the interests of our ruling class and extremely historically precedented. Some folks just have to learn the hard way I guess.

Movie studios are frequently run by morons, anyone who isn’t completely politically & historically illiterate could tell you it’s not far-fetched at all, and this person had the money for an international vacation so they’re definitely not representative of the average anyway

              • I think you’re underestimating the normalcy bias and overestimating how much the average person outside the US understands about what’s going on there.

Do we know it was a pure tourist visit and they could choose the location? Many state departments are already flagging the US with a state instability warning if not no-go, so I’d assume she (or the husband) was here on business, or because there were circumstances that pushed them.

To be fair, NYC is pretty blue, it’s just the NYPD that has been for decades a threat to the people, especially nonwhites, with Bloomberg’s mayorship taking much of the blame.
