I would have been more impressed if he said this when the movie came out
Cameron is like that weird uncle who occasionally has a really good take and then follows it up with some weird shit.
Everyone I’ve ever met like this was legit a posodist. Growing up in Mexico, people like this were a dime a dozen. My uncles are like this and then they go off on ufos or weird reactionary shit that only matter to trots. Maybe Cameron is a trot? It would actually explain avatar a bit better.
You just described my dad lol
lmao Trotskyist James Cameron makes so much sense
Among the movie directors that want to do art instead of money making movies there seems to be a lot of recognition that the profit-motive is harmful to their art which seems to result in them all ending up on some sort of marxist-adjacent wavelength. Unfortunately they’re all more interested in their art than revolution.
Y’know Cameron is actually kinda based. I remembered Avatar as a CGI Pocahontas story because I was a stupid lib when it came out but chapo’s review pointed out some pretty cool facets of the film. Like how the protagonist resolves his personal conflict by giving up his life in an act of rebellion against the colonizer culture and murdering the shit out of a bunch of US military stand-ins.
or the scene where the imperialist space people are behind some glass and the glass texture overlays to make a US flag
