obligatory copypasta

Holy fucking shit. I almost was exposed to a swear word on the Internet by some asshole cunt. That bitch didn’t know it’s fucking illegal to swear on the Internet. Thank fucking god someone blurred a very small part of there of five letters making it impossible to read the word “shit”. I was about to shit a fucking brick.

fuck

edit: @TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world took the time to edit it to remove the censor, so I changed the image in the post to that. Thanks!

To your comment: not only that, it’s a censor of an already censored curse word, “fkn” of course meaning fucking. This is one of the more egregious censors I’ve ever seen.

It’s censored because a very specific country from which a lot of social media comes from has been created by puritans. Which even centuries later, has people repressing such basic things as sex, cursewords, nudity. Including text / graphical filters that will bury your content and show it to noone, if you don’t do it.

Bro this started in TikTok which is decidedly Chinese and not Puritan. Though it can be puritanical in the broadest sense.

Agreed, the beginning of the end of involuntary-only censorship happened when Tiktok got popular. The older generations try to find the limits of allowable content on platforms (within reason) but the younger ones effectively self-castrate everything they post everywhere. And it’s because one app owned by a Chinese company is a bit strict about it. It’s disappointing.

What is the optimum angle to secure such a device for the maximum result? Asking for science.

Also, I wouldn’t ever glue/tie/epoxy one of these. I’d do four in various places.

I’ve had to bring this up elsewhere, but could we please stop making and reposting unnecessarily censored memes? The obscured word here is ‘FKN’, not even ‘fucking’. This isn’t Tiktok, these alterations are kind of gratuitous…

I always find it funny how cursing used to be “contrary to polite speech”, and in doing so you were asserting your freedom of speech.

But now, on the internet, self-censorship is considered “uncouth”, freedom of expression be damned. So now you will be attacked if you say “I’ll F*%Kin talk however the f$$k I wan’t Sh*thead!”

that’s kinda disingenous, the thing about censorship is that it’s inherently submitting to a higher authority, which for obvious reasons people have started realizing fucking sucks actually.

censoring yourself is giving power to the platforms and people who want to run our lives and make people suffer for their own profit.

Depending on the circumstance, I completely agree. There are certainly many cases where censoring yourself is giving away your power and freedom of expression.

However, it’s not disingenuous to say that if I want to censor myself, for any reason, on the internet I will likely be shamed by folks who want to assert their values over mine. And as such, acquiescing means I am once again giving away my power to the people who want to dictate what I do with my life.

Perhaps I want to do it because I find it funny. Or perhaps I want to do it because I’m trying to emulate a classic comic book speech style, which often had to use censorship because they were being controlled, but now has become a recognizable convention. Or perhaps, as I already mentioned, I simply want to do it to assert my right to speak how I choose, despite the “higher authority” of the crowd.

For whatever reason, giving up my freedom of expression, as you already mentioned, f*%king sucks actually.

For example, take this post. OP didn’t care if it was censored or not, they just wanted to share something funny and didn’t want to work to do it. Yet most of the comments are about the rage felt by folks who wanted OP to do more work so they didn’t have to see a black bar.

Voluntary censorship is just so weird to me… Like, people died so you could speak freely, and yet you censor fkn… Wow.

nah it’s just a f-u-n harmonica and some of us don’t like that.

but fkn is already a way to censor fucking, which is what’s f*nny about it.

I wonder if it’s just a unicode character that was replacing a weird accent mark instead of a ’

It doesn’t look like a unicode block to me, it goes to deep for that. But I also think that it censored a “k”.

I should print an adapter to route some of the intake charge through a harmonica…
