Also Zionism
lebensraum is just the german word for habitat btw.
every person from a german speaking country will always be confused by you using it like that
Here’s the German Wikipedia article for the concept.
https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebensraum_im_Osten
The biggest difference here is that in the German language it is “Living Space in The East” rather than just “Living Space”.
The comment below referring to “The Hitlerite Doctrine of Lebensraum is linked to a section that does not exist on the german language article (the most similar section would be” Ideologische Vorläufer des Nationalsozialismus". Actually, the German language article seems to be severely lacking in density overall.
Dunno, I’ve been familiar with that use of it since 9th grade because we talked about it in history class. So in context it’s quite obvious imo
A lot of countries opposed Germany in “ww2” because they wanted their country to be the global superpower, not Germany. So it’s not that they had an issue with Germanys ideaology, but instead felt threatened by it’s existence, similar to how the US and USSR felt threatened by each other’s existence. In fact both the US and Soviet union had policies of their own that were pretty similar to the nazis. The US had Japanese internments camps, along with racial segregation. Soviet union had gulags and the great purge
Literal Nazi rhetoric to excuse the Holocaust and invasions of their neighbors.
Pointing out industrial scale imperialist and colonialist actions and policies in their larger opponents to argue hypocrisy is one of the very rare occasions the Nazis were just straight up correct. Obviously their motives were still disgusting as they then used this point to argue that it somehow makes any of their actions and beliefs normal and okay, but the hypocrisy and lack of genuine ideological opposition they were identifying was in fact very real.
The fact the Nazis also identified this fact of reality because it benefited them in the moment to do so does not make it a Nazi talking point to acknowledge, as it is simply a fact of reality.
British were all the way up to Thailand(?) by the time Nazis started expanding. Was it Nazi rhetoric too? Ever heard of phrase “the sun doesn’t set on British empire?”
It’s funny how all west nation were into imperialism but then one goes overboard and all the blame is put on them. Everyone else gets a pass.
Fuck off.
Imperialism and fascism being similar in effect if you think history, wars, and conquest can be described by changed borders like in a fucking video game simply isn’t the same thing as a deliberate ideological war of extermination.
Manifest Destiny is a fair comparison, especially as it is a specific inspiration of Lebensraum. Pretending all the 30’s empires were equally bad doing equally bad things is just Nazi apologia and their literal rhetoric, you useful idiot.
