I’d been waiting for Valve’s latest hardware before jumping into VR home experiences. I hope the real-world product reviews live up to expectations.

The first impression reviews I’ve seen so far appear to have impressed. The Steam Frame will probably be my first VR device.

And ill add Walkabout Minigolf, and Beatsaber for multiplayer,

For more story based content: Red Matter and Red Matter 2 is excellent, Lone Echo fantastic, Walking Dead, and asguards wrath are amazing.

A lot of these are meta exclusives, but you can port em

God I hope so. I’d love to get more out of mine, but mostly just get some really really amazing VR games. Most of the ones I’ve played are just glorified tech demos or basic. Would love something good enough that I want to keep coming back to it.

The machines the least appealing thing to me. It’d have to be Steam Deck priced to be worth it in my opinion. RDNA3 but less compute units than an RX 7600. Controller looks like a buy. Possibly that VR headset too

Yeah this thing looks way too anemic but the rest of the announcements are great. I hope we eventually get a pro sku when the ai bubble pops and gpu prices return to some semblance of sanity but I know that’s mosty the copium talking.

Even me with a big tower is interested in the Steam Machine. My rig isn’t powerful to say the least, but cramming things inside the size of the Steam Machine, from my research, can get expensive fast.

IMO $500 is the highest it should go to still sell well. This is based on a few videos of people building SFF PC with older parts that can do 4K30

If it can play simple indie couch coop games on my TV, then it’s worth it. Can use my normal desktop for everything else.

As an NVIDIA user, I would love an AMD system that supports quick resume like the steam deck. To me, that’s the killer feature that Valve has nailed with SteamOS. Raw performance isn’t a priority for me given AAA games have been shit compared to Indies the last few years.

Excellent, definitely planning to move away from xbox once mine dies due to plan restructuring that has me paying the same amount of money to play online but without the benefits Gold originally offered (permanent access to select games each month)

Left the Xbox when I got my steam deck a year & a half ago and haven’t missed it at all, the final straw was when I bought a game it would not let me play it because it was offered on game pass, which I then had to get a monthly subscription for and no…no…not for a single game… just no

Surprised they didn’t announce any pricing, but given that they’re launching in 2026, I suppose you can’t be too cautious given the current chaotic US market…

Given the Steam Decks price relative to competition and their statements, I don’t think they’re doing it to maximize profit from hardware. At least, not in the traditional sense.

My hope is that this leads to some improvements to the docked experience for the steam deck. Docked modestill has quite a number of bugs unfortunately.

Just like the Steam Deck was sold to appeal to the handheld market, but the reason it had any success is because its a competent PC. Hopefully the steam machine actually takes off this time because the more gaming focused linux PCs there are the better linux itself will be supported.

And much like the Steam Deck, allows more freedom than just playing games. It enables use of the computer itself unlike consoles of the past. You buy an Xbox or a PS, and youre restricted on its use.

define “console.” I daresay that the phrase “console” exists largely to mislead consumers into the expectation that they can’t sideload apps and games onto their own device. Near as I can see, that’s the only real difference. But I can sideload onto my hacked 3DS and switch, are they not consoles anymore? I can run android and linux on the switch too.

It says ...and it's a PC as a header. What do you think is the part that is implied before the ellipsis? This is clearly to complement the reader’s view of this being a gaming device (i.e. a console).

I have a good history of admitting I’m wrong online. I do so freely and frequently. In this case I don’t believe I am wrong, so I will not.

GabeCube is a console and a PC.

You do realize this is just semantics right.
