It is the first defence cooperation under the Brics framework, with the Russian and Iranian navies reportedly taking part

The South African National Defence Force on Wednesday said the exercise – dubbed Will for Peace 2026 – would bring together “navies from Brics Plus countries for an intensive programme of joint maritime safety operations, interoperability drills and maritime protection serials” from January 9 to 16.

It said China would lead the exercise but did not specify which other countries would attend. Media reports have named Russia and Iran as participants, with Indonesia and Ethiopia also likely to take part.

I think this is a momentous step, considering there had always been the idea that BRICS was an economic, not military, bloc.

nah BRICS will never develop into a Military Bloc, too many competing interests. Most notably India, which has issues with China, and still plays a role in US’ containment strategy against China. India is also very friendly with Israel. Brazil will never form a military bloc with Russia-China and Amerikkka will never allow it. I highly doubt China will even want to form a military bloc, especially with Russia because China still wants good business relations with Europe. China can maintain strong ties with Russia, but not form an official military bloc , otherwise they would’ve openly supported Russia’s SMO. Then you have the minor members. Iran would probably join a military bloc, or maybe not, they seem to like to go their own way like with their military hardware. Egypt, UAE are US puppets. Indonesia will continue to be non-aligned.

Because insert US state propaganda talking points

Clearly BRICS wasn’t intended to be a military alliance, but the world just saw what happened to Venezuela. More countries are going to start looking for alliances and deepening relations with other countries outside the US sphere of influence

Of course they aren’t. Anyone who said they were doing that was either a moron or bullshitting. Albeit this news specifically is about Africa, but the same goes for South America. It is clear that China is in there to stay. No amount of regime change can change that. Even the ultimate Zio-imperialist bootlicker Milei was forced to go back to doing business as usual with China. China’s offer is just too good and the US offers nothing but destruction and plunder.

The US will succeed in some regime changes and fail in others, but even where they succeed they will ultimately fail because China’s economic force of gravity is only growing stronger and the US’s weaker, so all they do is exchange one regime that works with China for another regime that works with China but offers lip service to the Washington line.
