Man, I’m super glad that so many people voted based on their limited understanding of gender and immigration policies.
Neglect, within the context of healthcare, is considered abuse. Neglect on the part of a spouse in response to the abuser they’re married to sexually abusing a child is also considered abuse, by the law.
Healthcare workers are mandatory reporters of suspected or reported by patient abuse. To not do so would be neglect. Legally, they would be in serious trouble for not reporting.
Doing nothing while being aware of an issue on the level of physical, mental, or sexual abuse IS neglect. And neglect is abuse. The distance and lack of direct legal reprisal helps people lose sight of that truth.
We are here due to neglect. Yes, you can crack that one open to many layers and contexts but the end result is the same.

There’s an election every day in the US and 3-4 tiers of elected governments. I think even if they use every means at their disposal its going to be very hard to even shutdown elections in a single US state. This is why the main strategy seems to be kkk style: harass brown people, women, etc so much they’re afraid to visit poll sites. Use the depressed turnout to declare victory.
Edit: I’m pretty sure the end goal is to set up military check points outside of poll centers and forcibly ID card people.
Minnesota should anticipate this as a possible strategy and make ID cards free and easy to acquire in advance. They could also make them useless to the feds by allowing whatever name you want on the ID and omit your actual registered legal name placing it only behind a database requiring warrant access.

Why do you think the conservatives went absolutely fucking apeshit over mail-in ballots during Covid? They love it when voting it is difficult, particularly in areas with key demographics.
When things are more spread out - both physically via mail-in voting or being able to just drop off ballots at drop boxes, or spread out in time via things like early voting, it makes it much harder for them to do all their usual rat-fucking tactics.
You’ll notice they seem to object to all of these things, by the way.
that does explain why they immediately stop counting during the election to give trump the lead in the voting polls.

I found the kids hiding in an interior hallway of a fully dark apartment. They were scared to let me turn the lights on because la migra (ICE) might be outside. ICE had been banging on the front door of their building ten minutes ago, so they weren’t being unreasonable. And they were right. La migra was loitering in the area. ICE was also, unfortunately, on the block where the mother was sheltering.

I never read her diary. I should. I do wonder what kind of literature we’ll get from the persecuted survivors when this all ends, regardless of how it does. I did read “American Dirt”, an Oprah-friendly dramatization (don’t know the word, it’s a first person account told as a novel) of illegally entering America. This post reminds me of that, a bit, too.
I hate how incredibly relevant it is now. I visited her hiding space many years ago and never imagined then that the US would go down the same road as Nazi Germany. Not because It Couldn’t Happen Here, but because I thought we had learned from it and were better than that. I was very, very wrong.
Anne was right then and this one will end eventually as well, but I fear it will take much longer, prolonging the suffering, since there’s no coalition of power that will be liberating the US like there was with Germany.
