the entire labour party is transphobic, why would they not pursue their own ideological goals. It was literally(?) the first day of the labour administration that they banned puberty blockers for trans children. This IS their ideology. It is not to win over voters. It’s what THEY WANT.
Reform: for the overtly racist voter who only cares about immigration
Tory: for the wealthy/self-employed/homeowning/farming/tabloid-reading/all-of-the-above voter who only cares about low taxes
Labour: for the wealthy/lib/socdem/tabloid-reading voter who only cares about having a ‘sensible’ prime minister
all are transphobic by default.
It has worked for conservatives in the past. Right-wingers are truly pathetic creatures who will accept any abuse and indignity you impose on them as long as you treat minorities even worse. That’s the whole point of culture war bullshit. They will happily accept you lowering their standard of living as long as you throw the hogs a bone in the form of being cruel to women/poc/lgbtq people.
The Senedd (pronounced Sen-eth for non-Welsh speakers, the Welsh Parliament) is currently controlled by Plaid Cymru (Pl-eyed Cum-ree) and health is devolved so this is not a Labour issue, although labour’s transphobia has enforced this political environment
Also according to the article, this began because a Tory MP got mad that the Welsh gender service supposedly works 3-4 times faster than its equivalents in the rest of the UK (which would mostly mean that it works as painfully slow in Wales as in most European countries, but at least doesn’t have people routinely dying on the wait list as in England).

From experience it takes ~2½ years to get a WGS referral and then at least another year for hormones. Surgery waiting lists are agonisingly long due to the lack of surgeons in Wales capable of carrying out gender affirming surgeries, but the referral just requires social transition + being on testosterone blockers for a while so is typically quicker than in England even though they have more people capable of doing such surgeries.
Different story for trans mascs from what I’ve heard in that there’s plenty of surgeons that can do top surgery but a lot of medical gatekeeping.
Oh and speaking of transmasc surgeries, complete phalloplasty is at least five rounds of surgeries and usually a lot more from what i’ve heard, and one or two revisions aren’t uncommon for vaginoplasty either, so i honestly wonder how many people will be stuck with half-finished genitals because of this atrocity, and how many of those experience serious medical issues due to that. The article mentions ceasing all surgeries, there is nothing in there about making an exception for medically necessary revisions, unfinished procedures etc.
Ok that’s a lot worse for HRT than in my country, both as far as waitlist and time required in treatment are concerned. Can’ make a general statement for the surgeries because the wait list will be anything from under a year to five years (+ two years just for the initial consult) depending on the clinic. That’s on top of the wait list and the therapy duration of the initial referrals, but you can at least get on the wait list for a consult at the clinic before you have the referral.
I’m dooming right now because I was talking just last week during my annual WGS check up about moving on to the next steps before I can get my bottom surgery referral and now…
Wtf why are labor doing this? Are there a bunch of transphobic torries who are going to vote labor?

Why join labor instead of the conservative party if they’re transphobic and pro-austerity? Isn’t that Reform’s whole thing?
Being transphobic and pro-austerity is Labour’s whole thing
In short, there are at least 3 Tory.

Somehow they’ve decided that being transphobes will help them pass austerity and do NATO shit
They already did that before they ceased lip service for trans rights. The cruelty is the point.

I suspect there are a bunch of transphobes in the labor party.

Fucking bullshit.
