Was feeling more of the Lindelof vibes this episode. I’m glad that most of everything is out in the open between Hal and John, curious to see how the second half of the show goes.
I’m a bit confused on the Hector Hammond part? So the real Hector Hammond hired another guy who happened to be called Hector? Is there even a real Hector Hammond?
Assuming Zoe is the Manhunter, she went to John so she could be seen “destroyed” by the laser. This means Zoe must be innocent.
As John pointed out the laser gave them an obvious target, Hector Hammond. Since it was too obvious it must be a trap, but they chose to walk into the trap anyway (not that they had many options).
They do a little detective work and learn Hector Hammond is fake. That’s exactly what John said they needed to do, detective work. So now the information wasn’t too obvious, it wasn’t a trap, and they feel like they’ve earned the name Will Macon. It’s what they already probably thought and this time they earned it.
There might be a real Hector Hammond out there, but it’s not important. The important thing is that Zoe is innocent, the detectives got their investigation, and they “know” who the Manhunter is. Perfectly solved mystery, the end.
…except both Hal and John know that’s too perfect.
I do very well understand the plot. My question comes more from an above the table and a DC production question.
I’m a big Green Lantern fan, so Hector Hammond is a big villain and part of the lore, so the choice of execution and set up feels really odd and stands out. The moment they said Hector Hammond, I perked up, since I wasn’t expecting that character at all. It would be like if there was a fake Sinestro, which then leaves you confused on whether there will be a real Sinestro or not. Right now it feels more like an easter egg name for the fans. Maybe it will pay off in later episodes or some next season plotline.
It’s rare that I ask a show to slow down, but so much is happening.
I love Sinestro in the Hannibal Lecter role.
Also Hal says (to Sinestro) as far as he knows John doesn’t talk to the Guardians. So later on when he hears the recording, who does Hal think he’s talking to? Does he only figure out it’s the Guardians once John talks about how he didn’t keep the ring or say the oath?
Also the Guardian said that Hal violated his oath by going to see Sinestro. Why do they let him violate his oath? Is it just a matter of opinion? Although later on Hal admits he broke it.
