I was kinda meh about Lizzo until I caught her tinydesk performance.

I then checked out other live performances via video.

I’m still not super into her studio efforts. They’re good, but rooted in a production heavy style that isn’t really my thing for regular listening.

But live? That woman puts on a hell of a show. It totally changes the vibe of her songs. There’s a lot more personality and energy to her live performances than the studio stuff was able to capture.

It pisses me off that people are idiots about female performers. Doesn’t matter how fat, skinny, muscular, pretty, ugly, stylish or plain they are, it too often revolves around looks. And not even in the usual way that good looking people get treated better, which is still bullshit, but at least it’s not something most people have awareness they do.

No, too often, a woman or even young girl is only valued by whether or not she’s fuckable in the mind of the person running their mouth about her. It isn’t always, but it happens so often that it’s far from a rare thing.

It extends beyond just looks in that regard, but that’s too tangential for this purpose. Let it stay with the ugly fact that many people are only concerned about the fantasy of the performer rather than anything else.

It’s fucking ridiculous how often grown ass men and women will make “jokes” about a younger performer and how long until they’re “legal”, which goes beyond music too, but is a factor in music.

It’s fucking ridiculous that anyone is talking about Lizzo’s weight at all, period. That’s between her, and any doctor/professional she chooses to discuss it with, and not anyfuckingbody else. It’s absurd.

Like the music, hate it, idgaf. Music tastes are a subjective thing, so I never give a fuck about someone else’s. What the performer looks like is irrelevant, entirely.
