      I was always under the impression he was bi, but in love with a man. That said, regardless he cared deeply for his wife (as often happened in lavender marriages).

      There’s also Buchanan who never married in a time period where a successful man refusing to marry was a choice with implications

            Yeah, and not even in a “that’s a thing men did back then” way. Sharing beds wasn’t uncommon, but it was usually more like them crashing with you for a few days. He shared a bed with a “roommate” for like 4 years.
