It’s a frustrating outcome and a misreading of the audience to expect anything else but I’d argue that it proves that the movie is a perfect satire.

It’s excellent satire for a certain audience. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s possible to satirize fascism in a way that’s effective for an Amerikkkan audience. I think it’s hard to portray fascism in general without Amerikkkans missing the point. See also: the reaction many people had to The Zone of Interest.
Homelander is a great example of this too. It literally could not be more obvious, but people still love him

You seem to be assuming that Verhoeven exclusively made the movie for an american audience, which I very much doubt is the case.
I missed this. I like roderic but I sent him a whole essay about how starship troopers (the movie) is a satire of both liberalism and fascism but he wouldn’t publish it because he said it was incomplete.
