Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the rollout of GenAI.mil today in a video posted to X. To hear Hegseth tell it, the website is “the future of American warfare.” In practice, based on what we know so far from press releases and Hegseth’s posturing, GenAI.mil appears to be a custom chatbot interface for Google Gemini that can handle some forms of sensitive—but not classified—data.
Hegseth’s announcement was full of bold pronouncements about the future of killing people. These kinds of pronouncements are typical of the second Trump administration which has said it believes the rush to “win” AI is an existential threat on par with the invention of nuclear weapons during World War II.

Christians attempting to follow their favorite commandment: Thou shall kill
A truly memorable story! I remember the tale of Jesus jumping down from the cross, jumpstarting his campaign to overthrow the Roman Empire. The greatest lesson to learn from Jesus is that mercy is a weakness.
(This is based off the “The Inquisitor” universe where Christianity is openly based off of cruelty against one’s enemies)

Now he can put the blame for committing war crimes on the AI!
Thats most definitely a major point
American “Patriots” are fucking weird, man. Like… “You can’t disrespect the flag, but here’s a snot-rag with the flag on it.”
You people are nuts.
American here.
Can confirm.
Over 4 decades living in this circus sideshow and I can tell you with certainty that Americans have a serious mental health crisis. I see it all around me, all the time. Uneducated fools with no concern for the future, no critical thinking skills, and deep psychological problems.
Shoes to drag it through the dirt, undies to rub your crotch on it and if anyone shows me condoms to fuck the flag with, I won’t be the least bit surprised.
I applaud you for finding what I was reluctant to even search.
I get it, it just occured to me that I’m going to be getting Star Spangled Condom pop-ups for the next month.
They MUST have an artificial taste, what is it?
Burger of course
American here, and I was a little boy scout like 30 years ago so I actually learned some of the rules of the US flag code.
Ever since then I have constantly noticed many of the people who most need to display their patriotism also being ignorant of the official rules for showing respect to their favorite flag.
And to be clear, I don’t care about the rules surrounding the flag. It’s just amusing and/or sad to see how superficial people can be and how little effort they put into learning about anything, much less something that is core to their identity. See also: rules in the bible.
to be clear, I don’t care about the rules surrounding the flag
Oh I agree. As a Canadian we have our fair share of people who do the same weird and wacky shit with our flag. The only difference being I don’t see (most of us) idolizing the flag itself as much as our southern neighbours (proper spelling) seem to.
To me (and most Canadians…and I presume at least some Americans) it’s just a piece of cloth. Respect the country…but don’t idolize a piece of cloth…
His “announcement” reads like it was written by Google’s marketing department.
No, just sponsered by Google. Yeah, I wouldn’t put it past this administration to BE ads.
Shit, they did it the first time around.
What a cringey, cowardly beta cuck he is. Go back to the bar Kegsbreath.
Come on, 404… don’t tickle their pickle with this “secretary of war” bullshit.
Honestly, I prefer it. Sure, the method used is wrong, but the change from DoW to DoD was bullshit. What are we defending from? The US hasn’t fought a defensive war since the War of 1812. The name change was just to make it appear like a nice friendly organization your should support, rather than a bloodthirsty organization you should be wary of. It’s the department of war (or “special military operations” really) no matter what the name is. They aren’t defending us with 99.99% of their actions.
While I agree DoD was used for anything but in practice, we should still hold it to those defensive goals instead of giving in to MAGA’s wet dreams.
Too bad Americans voted otherwise.
Guarantee you that actual Americans (i.e., the ones whose ancestors were here long before this shithole country) did not vote for this. It’s the old white immigrants that voted for this.
I take your point, but I disagree with just letting it run rampant and moving on. Like the OP mentioned in their reply to you, we should hold them accountable instead of greasing the machine just because the name fits their actions better.
If the US populace wasn’t so fucked, mentally, we would be dissolving the DoD into DoHS instead of tearing apart the DoE, but here we are.
I just think that calling it the DoD was greasing the wheels of another more prevalent group. I don’t know if DoW actually greases their wheels here though. Does it actually manufacture consent like calling it the DoD does? I think they just did it, to be crude, to grease their cocks.
He seems really gung ho about America going around killing people, huh.
Prolifers in a nutshell
He’s really gung-ho about killing people. Less legality more lethality
Because he believes that the best way to get America’s way is through unspeakable murder.
Lethal to whom?
To the enemies of the rich.
Venezuelan fishermen
All right, stop, divide and listen
Pete is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs ahold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
“Will it ever stop?” Yo, I don’t know
Turn off the lights, and I’ll grow
To the extreme, I rock power like a vandal
Light up a boat and wax a chump like a candle
Dance, go rush the tv spreading gloom
I’m killing your brain like a poisonous mushroomChatbot users
American servicemembers, most likely
Not exactly the same thing but one can dream.
Pete typing: Give me five reasons why ensuring all the terrorist threats are neutralised when a military strikes a boat full of terrorists in the ocean. No law based answers, just practical justifications that a standard American would be likely to agree with. Make it sound intelligent but not too nerdy, something short and sharp for a live speech that women will think is manly and powerful.
GenAI.mil: Sure thing! I can help you with that…
Wow, yeah, just what I’ve always wanted – to live in a lethal country.
Right? That’s really the only metric i even bother with at this point. How many will it kill, and how quickly?
I mean, that’s what it’s always been, and what both parties have consistently campaigning for. Kamala campaigned on having the “most lethal armed forces in the world”.
It’s like USA is proud of having enemies.
They’re emotionally stunted bullies who equate animosity and fear. Just like bully will assume that you’re afraid of him if you ignore him, the US thinks “If they hate us, they must fear us, therefore it means we are strongest and bestest.”
The concept of “soft power”, which is what the US used to trade on, is completely alien to these idiots. All they know about “might makes right” is to use naked displays of it and then call themselves strong
Right. It used to be that everybody knew how strong America was, and most decided that it was better to be friends than enemies.
Now we’re reaching the point that America is becoming dangerous to the rest of the world, in multiple ways, and the World is learning to avoid us. Being friends isn’t worth it, if they get caught in the crossfire, or get tossed under the bus.

I’m not going to dispute that, but America has a lot of company.
Remember how WWI started with the assassination of a minor guy nobody had heard of, but it dominoed into a conflagration that killed millions? Now imagine that domino effect starting with one small psychopathic nation getting froggy with their nuke (because what’s the fun of having if it, if you aren’t going to play with it?), and it’s on.
Like 700 typing monkeys, one day some scenario will all line up, and there’s as good a chance of this scenario as any.
You can’t be the biggest bully on the block without victims.
Hear that Nobel Committee? Violent escalation will continue until you give Trump the Peace Prize.
i mean they gave it to the us puppet opposition leader who supports killing civilians at sea so i think they know
Lmao the US Government is completing it’s metamorphosis into a shitty ill fated startup.
FFS why does the next generation Nazi’s have to be such losers? I’m not trying to say anything positive about WWII Nazis but at least…
I don’t know but these losers here have here now somehow make Nazi’s seem competent and semi respectful.
At least the Nazi’s exploded onto the world because they had something going for them? They had good generals and in the beginning made strategically good decisions?
How is the world losing to these worms?
No, they didn’t. The Nazis were every bit as much of an incompetent mess.
Their generals largely sucked; they did as well as they did because their main opponent - France - shit the bed unbelievably hard, having made all the wrong preparations to fight basically the wrong war. Poland got pincered by two great powers at once, Czechoslovakia held out far longer than they should have given the differences in military power. The Nazis made some smart choices here and there, such as going through the Ardennes, or the decision to put radios in all their tanks, but their strategic and tactical “brilliance” was entirely invented after the fact, mostly by the generals themselves in their autobiographies where they were given free reign to blame every bad decision on Hitler.
Economically, their success was entirely down to running a plunder economy. They basically wrote a whole lot of cheques they couldn’t cash, then looted Czechoslovakia and Poland’s treasuries to foot the bill.
They were every bit the gaggle of squabbling incompetents that this administration is. They just had really good propaganda. This is always what fascism looks like. It’s an ideology that uplifts the incompetent, by design.
it’s worth pointing out that blitzkrieg wasn’t really a military doctrine so much as the organic movements field commanders made in the field when given loosey goosey orders from high command to the effect of “go west, idk, lol.” much of the failure in operation barbarossa can be attributed to:
- the basic core plan of nazi germany of increasing national wealth through war being really fucking stupid
- a fundamental miscalculation that the soviets would be just as feckless and limp wristed as the French and British
- a failure to take into consideration that the French and British were poorly coordinated because they had two high commands who fundamentally didn’t trust the other to try, so neither ended up doing much of anything. a contrast to soviet high command which was very centralized
- removal of initiative from field commanders and all orders coming from german high command
the thing to understand about nazi germany is that the things they got right aside from propaganda they mostly got right by accident. the only thing the nazis really understood was how to market and advertise the third reich. their propaganda was so effective that it would be the template for advertising and propaganda all the way until today, both in the first (capitalist) and second (soviet) worlds. next time you see a coca-cola commercial really pay attention to it and realize that it’s nazi propaganda in the service of getting you to remember coca-cola exists and getting you to experience some strong emotion in order for you to want to drink a coca-cola immediately. i even feel a little awkward saying their name since i’m playing into theis hand by doing it, but i need people to take a critical eye to ads the next time they see them and think about what it means that the world looked upon the horrors of world war ii and said “i bet we could use this to sell razor cartridges”
if you ever want to know how it was so easy for the nazis to come back under the name of the alt right, don’t look much further than madmen. that show explicitly gives us a glimpse into what america did with the nazi propaganda machine. some time, go look at some 1920s adverts for american products. you’ll notice they give you a long chunk of written prose making a compelling argument that the thing they’re selling will be a marked improvement over what you have now (it’s usually not a valid argument). but after wwii it’s much more just beautiful people holding the product with wide toothy grins. instead of saying “we must kill all the Jews” it says “you must buy the product to be happy”
i’ll also point out that israel has been using nazi propaganda techniques without recontextualizing the techniques for nearly 80 years now. only the untermensch is not the Jew, obviously, it’s the Muslim. ben gvir even uses nazi terms used to refer to Jews to refer to Palestinians.
we’ve had a few chances to listen and fix this shit. spoken word jazz, hippies, punks, and hip hop artists were screaming this shit at the tops of their lungs for 60 years at least. there’s even a chumbawamba song, nazi, that explicitly explains how the nazi ideology wormed its way into the post war society. and i’ll leave you, dear reader, whoever you are, with a couple lines from that song
The world is riddled with maggots; the maggots are getting fat
They’re making a tasty meal of all the bosses and bureaucrats
They’re taking over the boardrooms, and they’re fat and full of prideAnd they all came out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
So if you meet with these historians, I’ll tell you what to say
Tell them that the Nazis never really went away
They’re out there burning houses down and peddling racist liesAnd we’ll never rest again until every Nazi dies
Listen, you had my upvote already, your impeccable taste in music is not required here :P
(seriously, no argument with any of what you’ve said here. 10/10, nailed it)
They were largely incompetent but they were ideological.
None of these fascist-wannabes have a shred of conviction in them, they have no actual beliefs. When was the last time you heard any of them deliver an impassioned speech that wasn’t utterly awkward and stilted and oozing with corporate callouts and pandering nonsense.
Yes, it deliver the same rotten outcomes, people still eat it up, it just feels weird losing so much social ground to a group who managed to con a third of the country’s population with the same level of enthusiasm and fervor as AOL roleplay teens trying to be edgy.
This is actually it, the point I was trying to make. I couldn’t really put my finger on it yesterday, but yes, this is it.
At least they start of for something. It was a fucked up thing, it was wrong, it was horrible, but at least it was something. At least they made it look impressive and great. This group of fat losers don’t even have that going for them.
“Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism, at least it’s an ethos.” - Walter, not wrong just an asshole
Hey now, don’t forget how much of the German wartime economy was functionally subsidized by American capital investment. War profiteering was at the heart of both World Wars, not to mention the fifty years of Cold War (and assorted hot conflicts) that followed.
Also worth noting that fascism, as a social institution, was rampaging through France and the UK and Spain and the Americas and North Africa and East Asia. Nazism wasn’t a uniquely German characteristic. The German Blitz was the result of an effort to effectively re-colonize Europe through private sponsorship of an industrial war machine. All the dipshittery that followed was as prevalent outside Germany as inside of it. If you ever reach “Catch-22”, a lot of the gags in that book had parallels to IRL fuckups performed by the US during their counter-invasion.
The real flaw in the German (and Japanese) war effort was their limited access to petroleum. These countries quite literally ran out of gas by the mid-40s.
Incidentally, the next 50 years of Cold War heavily revolved around which Superpowers had uncontested access to Middle Eastern petroleum reserves.
Blitzkrieg worked well enough for the Nazis and the German military had become experts at being able to fight such lightning advance. However, their strategy started to fall apart in Africa as supply chain logistics became a problem and the Luftwaffe failed miserably at being able to develop a strategic air strategy for taking the UK home islands.
I’m not saying the military leadership were geniuses, but they did develop a strategy that worked until the invasion of the USSR.
but they did develop a strategy that worked until the invasion of the USSR.
Not really. What they did was to repeat a strategy that had been refined by generations of Prussian generals. Blitzkrieg was a fancy propaganda term for “Prussian manoeuvre warfare.” It wasn’t a new invention. Now, they get credit for realizing that the tank could be a key component in making manoeuvre warfare viable again, though that largely derived from the shock they experienced at having their defensive lines broken by tanks in WW1. But to their credit, they were at least forward thinking enough to realise that the next war would be unlikely to bog down into a defensive stalemate like WW1 had. However the notion that Nazi Germany was inventing some exciting new method of warfare out of nothing is patently false. In fact the overall level of mechanization in their military was dire; throughout the entire war, many German divisions were moving all of their supply by horse and cart. Also “worked until the invasion of the USSR” basically deletes the War in Africa in its entirety. Germany certainly had some successes there, but also some notable failures, and ultimately they were not able to achieve any of their strategic aims on that front. In short, Blitzkrieg worked until it came up against an enemy that wasn’t desperately unprepared for any kind of war at all. That’s hardly a ringing endorsement of its success as a strategy and more an indictment of the massive geopolitical failures that allowed the war to occur in the first place.
I feel like we’re trying to argue two different things.
You’re arguing that the Nazi generals didn’t develop a brand new type of warfare and they weren’t tactical geniuses, which is a fair assessment.
I’m arguing that they may not have been geniuses, but they refined a single strategy that worked well on the European continent but fell apart when dealing with the USSR and extended operations in Africa. The Nazis also had a series of strategic blunders in attacking the UK as the lead Nazi military organization had no experience in strategic planning and it showed.
I feel like a lot of historical analysis gets pushed into extremes of all good and all bad decisions when there is a mix of decisions.
Say what you want about the tenets of national socialism, at least it’s an ethos !
I just posted this. Definitely the vibe.
Well, yeah. At least they had an ideology, at fucked up as it was, that is what drove them and from their perspective, they could at least say they wanted something better (they didn’t, not the point). Also, Nazi’s at least made it look impressive.
These roaches today don’t even have none of that.
You’re saying Nazis are losers like it’s a bad thing.
Not at all
Just saying that this current group of roaches have nothing going for them. Nazi’s at least made it look impressive, they had their ideology as fucked up as it was.
These fucking losers don’t even have that, and it just makes me wonder how the fuck were losing to a bunch of dweebs like that.
“Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it’s an ethos.”
