August Bebel had everything to him from the SPD inspired by Marx and Engels and their teachings and experiences but I dont think Engels who lived during the first era of the SPD and praised it alot could be in the place of Bebel.
Marx was directly involved in organising the first international as an activist. His point specifically was to not just be a thinker and theorist.
