Made by a mother-and-son team over five years, the low-budget, so-bad-it’s-good film went from selling fewer than 300 tickets to becoming a million-dollar hit.
Everything about this is fascinating to me. A mother and son spend 5 years and apparently just $200 to make an animated film. The animation is terrible. It predictably flops. But after about a week in theaters it goes insanely viral and all of a sudden it’s now the most profitable relative to budget box office of all time.
Based on comments I’ve seen from people that have seen it, it’s a so bad it’s good type of movie, but some people actually did enjoy parts of the story and the music.
There’s a fucking hand drawn movie theater poster for it too:

I love this lol
HAHA

The hand drawn movie posters are great! Every theatre will be a unique piece!
I think it’s moreso a respect for how authentic the movie feels, especially in an era where AI slop is making its way into mainstream film.
I think Saberspark summed it up nicely
From one of the posts in the thread, the film is predicted to make 135 million RMB
THAT’S 20,000,000 USD
With what looks like a budget of $5000.
These posters slap
