Hello everyone. Its time for another Gaming Sunday. This week I finished the base game of Elden Ring for the seamless co op playthrough I was doing with my brother. We then dipped our toes into the DLC. Also, I have gotten into 3DS emulation have started a playthrough of the Gen 3 pokemon remakes. I remember those coming out when I was in high school, and I deeply contemplated buying a 3DS to play them, but for some reason I never ended up pulling the trigger. Anyway, I have beaten the first gym. Hope you all have a great week ahead!
My buddy cant go out much cause he is on probation so we have been playing a bunch if palworld and wandering about in nature has been therapeutic for him.
I kinda want to try to run nightreign eith jim but after seeing people talk about it big walk might be the move
Finally got my fight stick buttons from aliexpress. This is my prototype just to test it out but I’m going to my buddy’s place to use his drill press for a more permanent solution.

Oh yeah it’s skullgirls time
What art are you going to use for the backing?

Rad as hell
finally got an FTL win on normal difficulty, i can’t image how difficult hard difficulty is
I liked having boarding parties but that really didn’t work on that boss so I fell off
the only win i had is still with the stealth ship, the max evasion plus a bunch of lasers and flak won me that run
Really depends on the ship. The Zolton Cruiser can be a breeze with early shield upgrades. Sometimes you just get a bunch of dual lasers and laser chargers and vaporize enemy ships with minimal power, allowing you to invest in other systems.
Then there’s ships I haven’t even beat normal with. Been a while since I played FTL.
I managed to finish my first North Korean run in Super Metroid!

quick explanation
In Super Metroid there are 4 main bosses you have to defeat to access the final boss and beat the game: Kraid, Phantoon, Draygon and Ridley.
Speedrunning routes through the game are commonly abbreviated by the initials of the order of bosses you kill, so DPRK (or North Korea%) is one possible route… though it is entirely a meme route because it means doing the underwater area without the item you REALLY want for it

Maybe we need a category in which you only kill Phantoon, Ridley and Crocomire next

Is it possible to do any boss order now? I’ve heard of reverse order but never a DPRK run.
If you’re enough of a masochist then any boss order is possible, yup!

I’m playing Cyberpunk and I’m oscillating between this game is not as good as the hype says it is, and yay a decent rpg.
Been playing Metaphor: ReFantazio inbetween illness and recovering from surgery. Only got 10 hours in, but I really like the style of the game. Definitely an A+ effort from Atlus. The game’s first dungeon is absurdly long though. I wasn’t even remotely prepared with proper consumables when I walked in. I am definitely enjoying it. Great game with a compelling story thus far.
I started consuming some Elden Ring lore and then almost bought it, but wanted to think it over more since I usually bounce off Souls games. Convinced myself that I could be into it, then heard they’re putting out a version with the DLC and so on in a couple weeks so I’m still not getting it until then in case either the price of the new thing beats the current price+DLC or if they put the previous configuration on big sale or something. 🤷
to me is was the most “accessible” from soft game
The little DLC add-on is going to be $5 I heard so IDK if that’s going to factor much into things.
I’ve gotten sucked into a handful of PS2 games for nostalgia because I learned about Retro Achievements. Just logged into my account on PCSX2 and started up some Guitar Hero and Dynasty Warriors 3. It’s a neat way to encourage playing older games like this because I get dopamine hits whenever I get an achievement and it tells me my placement on leaderboards. Some people on the site are too hardcore for me though, I’m not grinding 9999 kills on a DW3 level to get top leaderboard position for kills in that level.
Can I ask what you get out of achievements bar what you’ve already said?
Well if you want to actually fully engage with the site itself, it’s full of retro game enthusiasts who like squeezing every ounce of content out of older games. There’s a large community of people on the forums discussing older game series, collectively cooking up achievement sets that fans of those games would appreciate so they’re a lot more unique than “Complete X level”, talking about self-imposed challenges that can become subsets of the main achievements. They’re all community developed and you can easily become an achievement developer yourself. I have several friends who are on the site and so it becomes a bit of a friendly competition to see who can beat each other on leaderboards, earn the most points during an event, master some funny/obscure meme game, etc. You can also earn some in co-op.
There’s also a ‘softcore’ mode that allows you to play with rewind, save states, and other features of emulators. Most people play on ‘hardcore’ though and there are exclusive rewards to doing so, which means you have to play the game as the game itself allows. Close to how you would have done it on the original system. Which is neat in its own way, because I am always tempted to abuse save states. It gives me either a new appreciation or new level of disdain for a game when I have to engage with all of the design decisions instead of skipping over them with emulator features. They do still allow you to use fast forward in hardcore mode though.
Outside of that, I like that achievements give me something concrete to work toward that isn’t just “beat game” or “100% game”. You can of course set your own goals, but I’m someone who tends to complete games, almost never replays them, does very little side content because I think minigames are always bad or the content is often boring, etc. Achievements reign that in a little by giving me a reward for doing things that I might otherwise not find enjoyable for their own sake. But not in like an unhealthy way to where I’m obsessing over the achievements and getting frustrated by what I have to do to earn them either.
I like showing off a little even though none of it matters.
Thanks for the write up! ദ്ദി(╭ರ_•́)
doing more hoi4 kaiserredux and TFR runs, cause nothing else is interesting right now :P
Mortal shell 2 is meh, i’m really tired of souls games as of late, so its not really hitting. also, UE5 game suckiness
I just finished Big Walk. It was so good, I feel a kind of emptiness now that there’s no more left to do.
If you have people who can play online, the game is so much fun as a group.I just started it with a group of 7 last night and it’s such a unique game. Everyone just kept naturally splitting off into smaller groups, going off on their own little adventures, reconvening without even planning on it. We’re about 4 hours in and it’s phenomenal so far. Definitely need to run it back with some other folks too to check out the puzzles that were solved without me while we were off doing our own somewhere nearby
It’s so fun to explore the map! I want to try it with a big group now, just to see if some of the puzzles scale. It took 4 of us about 22 hours to get 100%.
There’s some scaling from 2 up to 4, but I think it stops at 4. So far we haven’t found any that required more than 4, and when making a lobby the player count setting is “4+” if I recall.
Enjoy the Elden Ring DLC comrade, I absolutely loved playing it as difficult and as big as it was.
I haven’t been playing much this week, my head has been kinda of scrambly after coming out here in the funny hexagonal bear site and more recently to a friend (it went very well, yay!!). But I have played a bit of Isaac with a friend on his second save, I played a bit of Hades and did a little bit of training with Marisa on SF6, I trained a pretty cool 7k dmg combo off of a Punish Counter on the corner with lvl 3 and full drive, but haven’t played since then and that was in the middle of the week.
been feeling the pull of the Atelier series so i’ve been playing Resleriana which is one i’ve not played before, i’m not very far into it but it’s been pretty fun so far

You know “Design is Law”? In Final Fantasy Tactics, CT is Law. What is CT? Clock Ticks which decide the turn order. Equivalent of Tactics Ogre’s Wait Turn system.
The easiest way to victory is to have infinite range (so Sword abilities with Agrias or Orlandu, holy shit Orlandu lol) with stuff like max-Jump Lancers, and then attack whatever unit moved last. You get screwed over enough with timed spell casts and shit, you learn to just attack the unit that’ll take the longest to move next. Seems simple and it is, happens to reduce the game to a baby-easy snooze fest and render most spellcasters totally useless.
I always liked the call of duty buld for FFT tactics games. Just a fire team of archers. Pin them down disable them and plink them to death. Sure a big summon is cute but a dozen arrows tends to work just as well.
Knight archer just shooting the weapons out of peoples hands is a clutch move
Archers have trash damage output in this game though? Also I couldn’t figure out how to turn archers into engineers without looking it up. Weapon breaks and disables are clutch tho.
ⓘ Remember to enable JPEG-XL support in your browser, even on your phone!
Yeah, it doesn’t matter if their dps is low if your can lock down the other team and make their dps zero. Maybe not viscerally satisfying sometimes but artistically pleasing
If there are infinate broken strategies is it s kind of balance if they cancel each other out.
holy shit Orlandu
lol agrias who? cid is my new best friend
Still not strong enough to one-tap zombie Balk and dies the turn after
hey fuck this game y’know
been playing Baldur’s Gate 2. last time i played it i was 13 years old and i definitely didnt pick up all the nuances of the dialogue nor the gameplay. it’s been a lot of fun, they really dont make em like they used to. the Pathfinder games get pretty close, but i love the rugged dirtyness of the 2d more than the “plastic” feeling 3d.
Been trying out Tears of Metal with a friend, I like it for how it has historically accurate depictions of the English as horrific demonic monstrosities, fun co-op gameplay and overall just a nice roguelite package.
