That’s how Garry Hoy died:
In an attempt to prove to a group of prospective articling students that the building’s glass windows were unbreakable—a stunt he had performed without incident many times before—he threw his body against the glass. True to Hoy’s assertion, the window did not break; instead, the entire window yielded whole, popping out of its frame, and Hoy fell to his death.
I remember hearing about that. Happened in Toronto downtown I believe.
Was a post about him in !historymemes@piefed.social recently, that’s how I learned about him: https://sh.itjust.works/post/63828716
The image/gif is gone from the post (why though), I guess from the title it was a repost of this post from r*ddit: https://old.reddit.com/r/HistoryMemes/comments/1v2saj9/the_glass_held_strong_the_frame_did_not_neither/
Kids, this is not the way to test things like this.
Exactly! The better way is to throw people you don’t like at it.
Is this that Chinese factory / apartment block anti-suicide netting we keep hearing about?
I had no context for the video, unfortunately. Simply that someone was very confident it would all hold.
Might be a thing to keep a toddler from suiciding.
